Some quirks do. But they’re only on live series cards and cards that were flashbacks of players from this past year (think 2021 finest cards, 2021 post season cards, etc.). The main quirks that matter (for hitters) are first pitch hitter, dead red, breaking ball hitter, and unfazed. Those quirks add slightly to the hitters attributes depending on the pitch throw/count of the AB.

Ok, is this what active quirks are? Where can you you find these when looking at a player's attributes/quirks etc. The first I'd really heard about it was because Trout doesn't have any. Also, why do they only apply to active players and Flashbacks of the current year? I'm guessing this means that all 2021 Finest, 2021 Postseason, 2021 All Star/HRD and maybe the 42 cards of active players plus the live series have these?

Good thread. I've wondered about quirks a lot lately.

I’ve constantly heard people mention them all year but never bothered to understand if they are that important or not…..and i legit started this thread because like you i saw someone say “Trout does not have any active quirks” like he’s trash lol

The active quirks are analagous to some of the perks you get in showdown, ie- increased exit velo on two strike counts, increased vision on first pitches, etc.

I notice this year more than ever people mention quirks when evaluating new cards. Is this really a game changer when looking at certain cards to use? Besides a pitcher having outlier I honestly could care less, but are there specific ones that are elite or rare that i should be looking for?

Scann did one of the best studies of quirks on finest cards that I've ever seen in this video. Watch and you'll see the impact of quirks. Dr. Scann does some amazing stuff here...

Gotcha, and where can I oook to see if a player has them and if so what they are/do.

Like the OP, I never really gave much thought to them other than outlier but when everyone was commenting on Trout not having any, I expected to look under the quirks tab and find nothing. But he has like 8 or 9. I guess they are just not active?

Thanks for the reference, it makes sense now when people say "active" quirks.

For instance, if my home field is set at 7 PM it would make sense to stack my lineup with guys who perform better in night games? Given More times than not I am the home team?

In my opinion the quirks are nice but who really has time to worry about which are active? To me they are just a passive thing that might matter but I don't really find myself thinking about which are active in the moment.

Because if they do in fact matter, it could change which players you rock with in your lineups. Simple

If I put day players with homebody quirks and my opponent is home team playing at night then it's a wash.

I hate hearing it. His Award card from last year’s game didn’t have active quirks, and most people I heard from loved the card. He was in my OF.

There aren’t enough players with the pickoff artist quirk

I would at least pay attention to your pinch hitter quirks. First off use players that have pinch hitter as an active quirk and then choose the player depending on situation (home/away, day/night, 2 outs, RISP, etc) that may have another active quirk at that time.

Maybe also pay attention to your SP active quirks depending if your playing home/away or day/night if they have those as well.

How do we know if a quirk is active?

It’s just certain types of quirks… basically the situational ones

I am not 100% sure why the community calls them active quirks… to me they should be called “situational quirks”

How many catchers have the pop perk? I’ve only seen it on Pudge.
