I’ve been a Braves fan since I was born. I was a young kid when we were great in the 90’s and now we’re dominating our division again. But I’m not so sure the Braves should re-sign Freddy if he stays strict on his desire to get 6y/200m. The benefit of re-signing him is you get an elite 1B that has shown nothing but pure consistency his entire career and has a beautiful swing that makes him looking like he’s playing tennis. However middle-cap teams like the Braves thrive when inking contracts that have an extremely high expected value such as Acuna’s 8y/100m. (Still can’t believe we have him for possibly 8 more years @ only 12m/y!)
Signing Freddy for over twice what we’re paying Acuna might not be the right move in the long run if Freddy finally starts to have injury issues with age. It’s just too risky to pay a guy over 30m a year if you aren’t the Yankees or Dodgers. Any other Braves fans wanna weigh in on this? I see an unrealistic expectation for the Braves to “re-sign at all costs” by the normal fans and I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.

You don't just let him walk after winning a WS and what he's meant to the Braves, in my opinion.
I'm a Mets fan and I love the guy. Maybe because I play 1B?

As a Braves fan, you have to make a heck of an effort to re-sign him due to PR alone. It's a tricky situation. Can you gain MVP production at a lesser cost? I dont think so. What I might try and do is back load the contract with a club option. I dont know if he'd go for that. But it'd at least give the appearance that an effort was made.

They may go the route the Jays did with Berrios. Back load the contract with an opt out after five years or whatever they choose.

If the Braves want to capitalize on this window and try to get to and possibly win another WS, signing Freddie is a solid move despite the back end of the contract being less productive most likely. I can understand if he was trying to get a Cabrera or Pujols type contract, that would not be the right move, but 6 years ,there is a possibility he'll be solid through the life of the contract or at least 4 to 5 years.

But winning a WS is insanely hard. The Dodgers have a legendary squad, in terms of talent, ranking among the all time best and they have only won 1 since 1988 (and let's be honest, Covid season flags fly forever, just a little lower 😀).

The Braves winning their 4th championship is a huge accomplishment and so if he goes, you definitely got the best out of Freeman. That team has lots of talent and should be around for a while in the playoffs with or without Freddie, but,, he's like a Ripken, Posey or Gwynn to your team and it would be great to see him retire a Braves player. Plus he looks like a handsome cartoon.

This is the type of player (kershaw and the dodgers too) that you hope the question of " well, whos gonna play there now?" is because of retirement.
    I say re-sign.

I think we have to resign him, especially since the DH is most likely coming, that will make the last few years better if he does start to regress in the filed due to age. Our young core has not even reached their prime yet, our window is wide open. I was in high school when the Braves won in 1995, so I know how hard it is to win championships even with a great team, but I think you go all in for the next 3-4 years.

I wouldn't let a face of the franchise like that go. Besides, he's expressed his desire to stay with Atlanta, so I wouldn't go against his wishes. Once Acuna and Morton and all the others heal up, the Braves will be lethal next year.
