people forget how broken 17 was, 17 was the year of "just late" being rewarded with 400 foot tanks to right field on inside up and in pitching, 18 was awful, 19 honestly after the patch in early fall the game was pretty great, 20 was awesome, 21 is a trial year for cross play, games been wonky all year. They just have to balance the game with the feedback system, if the feed back system was a bat instead of a giant circle it would be way more understandable.
Feedback hasn’t worked properly since they introduced it. Should just get rid of it
Like just give us a bat that shows us where our opponent or where we hit the ball on the bat, so when swings that should be rewarded, are not, we can maybe see oh well that was off the end of the bat, or that wasn't barreled. It would also help with foul balls, seeing where the opponent had their bat
Oh I agree to a certain extent. I meant if something doesn’t work, and you know it doesn’t, just get rid of it instead of leaving it there for everyone to complain about

16 by far was the most playable game except for bunt cheese as Dragon mentioned. 17 started out bad but was patched and turned out pretty good. I think this was also the year they introduced ball physics and guys with swings that finished one handed were terrible (looking at you Ripken) I think (just my opinion) that when ball physics entered the engine, hitting overall went downhill especailly for hitters that finished their swings one handed. Guys with two handed swings were great hitters and if you used them the game was still good.

I played 18 offline only (RTTS and Franchise, I never played online games back then).
I got 20 and started online. It was fun. I didn't really face many issues. Played around 100 RS games and have something like 74-29 record.
21 is awful. Too many bugs like others have mentioned (stamina, off-pci hrs, batters almost getting hit when bunting which leads to a single). Gameplay this year just feels like it took a giant leap back compared to 20 for me.
I didn't play a baseball game before 18 all the way back to MVP 2004. I won't be buying 22 and I only play 21 to use the stubs I've accumulated. I'm going to devote more time to Diablo 2 Resurrected.
You remove the check swings from 20 and its the best game. But my god they were far to rampant they literally ruined my desire to play.
For online mode, yes, they were crazy. They nerfed check swings too much this year by including it in offline too. The CPU is the master at checking, but not for us. Plus, SDS did yet another terrible job at the feedback. I had multiple times (like everyone else) where my batter barely moved (like Flores last night) and got called a strike on the check. The reply showed the bat going through the entire zone yet my batter animation barely moved. Just tired of their sloppiness. I'm gonna take another 10 years off and maybe by that time they'll have a good product? Probably not.

Content is the only thing that is saving this game. SDS is turning into EA and producing one dumpster fire after another. 17 was the last good game they produced.

100% Content really isn't that good any longer either. 4 of the same player cards, just one with better attributes. Its so boring now.

I actually liked the content in 17. The player programs had a better balance of stat grinding, collecting and exchanging. You had the my career award path that rewarded you for your stats. The over arching Griffey program was also great. And best of all, NO MOMENTS! For me 17 is GOATED

idk man Madden is kind of fun to play offline, I bought it for the first year this year in a while and itd pretty relaxing.

This debate can go on for a while personally I think 21 is the most rounded of the game, yes there are game play issue online for sure but there has been online issues in every game. I think 21 has done the best job overall of balancing online and offline play with obtainable cards that don't get locked behind impossible achievements.
Also I know there is alot of hate for 18 but I think 18 and how it played out was a positive as SDS really learned from that game mainly on the content side of things bit I think gameplay wise they continue to work on the game and try to improve it clearly some changes have not work but others have worked very well.
My personal order of the games is
21
19
17
20
16
18 -

I logged in to HUT last night to see what EA has cooking.
$10 for a pack of cards with a 9% chance for an 86+. Business as usual over there.

Thanks guys...I guess as far as DD goes it looks like '21 is about middle of the pack. I would have hated to see these forums in '18. LOL
In terms of content and layout 21 has been by far the best, in terms of gameplay 16-17 were the best. DD this year as I said set the new standard for team builders, a ton of good cards available for free, even made BR rewards more attainable. Its refreshing to not be fleeced for 100’s of dollars to build a competitive team.
I think it's the best balance of being able to do NMS or buy stuff. As opposed to Madden which the grind is awful to be NMS. The changes to BR and WS rewards were awesome and honestly needed due to the 1m stub caps. Last year was awful not being able to buy who you wanted even when you had stubs
