Subscription to play DD online?

So I finally decide to try and play humans online, and every mode I get a subscribe to some playstation service in order to play online. Does this mean I literally can only play others by subscribing to a service?
If so I guess I won't be trying my hand against humans as I am not going to pay to have joey freezoff quit on me should I get lucky and take an early lead.
I mean I already paid for the game and the unit to play on it. Sorry if it sounds like whining, and perhaps it is, but I can go to a bunch of games online and pay for the game and start playing, not buy the game, then pay even more to play other humans.

Yeah you have to pay for absolutely everything nowadays. If you’ve never tried it before there’s a 14-day free trial just be sure to remove your payment information so they don’t try to sneak in a monthly membership

Yeah, have to have ps plus to play vs humans, or to co op in the games that have it. Xbox is the same. But its not just vs ppl that it gives, look it up on the console the subscription gives a few other things too.

Thanks for the info. Apparently things have changed a LOT since I played the show (2006). Not the end of the world, but not sure I want to go that route for now as I still have a long way to go to get my hitting up to par to play other humans. Appreciate the help.

I have it, primarily for a few games that i co op with my brothers.playing people-not for me, i work customer service- i get enough of ppl then( too much). but then its also free games each month and some games get discounts

but those free games you get are not truly free because if you let your playstation + expire all those free games are unplayable

Who the hell let’s their stuff expire. I’ve had Xbox live for 15 years. Maybe longer.

I let it expire cause sometimes I'll go months without wanting to play online so I'll renew when I want to play again

They usually have 14 day or 10 day free to play cards if you never had PSN. Look for them on reddit.
