After years I think I finally found the cause of the warping pitches, etc

The thing that I don't get, is I never had these issues until last year. I've been using the same setup since 18 at least. Same console, same ISP, same speeds. Yet I didn't start seeing the underwater batting until about a month into 20. I even went back to try 19 last year and it was still fine while 20 was playing like dung.

If you do not deal with warping pitches, noodle bats, slow base stealer jumps, etc, this does not apply to you. Please move along. Nothing for you to see here.
Curious to hear from people that test this. Now you could play someone in or close to those areas and have no idea.
I don’t play online, I just play against the cpu, do programs, and conquest. However, I am experiencing issues similar to the ones you describe. Before I go into my experiences, I’d like to state for the record that I’ve played MLBTS since MLBTS 16, I am playing MLB 21 on Xbox Series X, and I have excellent WiFi and internet (with signal-boosting linksys nodes).
Against CPU, the game can be choppy and have a low frame rate sometimes. It doesn’t happen often during sunny, partly cloudy, overcast, or night games, but the frame rate drops during rain games (especially noticeable when the bat makes contact of any kind with the ball, esp. fouls). It’s very annoying.
The game deliberately makes my baserunners slow and stupid. It doesn’t matter if the pitcher is terrible at pickoffs, or how bad the infielders are. On every other steal attempt (on average), my baserunner will get a slowed-down jump—even if the baserunner is a speed demon, like Kenny Lofton or MA Byron Buxton. This occurs regardless of the ball-strike count, game situation, or pitch out. It’s quite remarkable that my controller has not been sent into the opposite wall like a missile, with how much this has happened.
Furthermore, the game will lock me in place on occasion when the pitcher does a pickoff throw. It happens regardless of what base my runner (or runners) is on and regardless of the stats of the pitcher/infielders or those of my baserunner. My runner is stuck in place and doesn’t move when I press the button to make him retreat.
Also, I feel like the game makes me throw a cookie to the occasional hitter (even though the pitcher I’m using has great accuracy), resulting in a no-doubt home run. It used to happen to me pitching against Gary Sanchez all the time (for some reason). Maybe the game wants to give the hitter a freebie HR with how many batters I strike out. Idk.
I wish I could say I was paranoid, but I have a gut feeling and years of MLBTS experience that suggest otherwise. I should probably make a thread on this.
I don't play against the cpu much. It is mind numbingly boring for me. However, I was getting some of these early when the servers were just horrid.
Be thankful you don't play online if you deal with this against the cpu. This game isn't worth breaking controllers for.
Unfortunately, I don't think this will get many responses because I think most of the people that deal with these issues bailed. I think I may friendly or just quit when I see these people. Save me 45 minutes of bs. Last night I thought long and hard about going back to PUBG. Probably test this theory some more tonight. Worried about playing HOF when these issues cause huge problems on all star. I seem to be playing these people more. Had a lot of them last night and it wasn't fun.
I played one online game this year and the lag made my pitching so awful that I gave up three HRs in an inning. Couldn’t even hit one myself. I was out of town renting a place at the time for an internship, and that no doubt played a role in the bad signal, but still. I play battlefield and I know exactly what having high latency is like (it’s crazy, when it gets bad enough your soldier just zips and slides around, and your shots don’t register soon enough, if at all). I get onto Charter real quick if we’re not getting the signal strength and speed we pay for. Drives me crazy.
Worse, the person I played against had the worst uniforms ever that had the loudest and most obnoxious colors. Their players were so bright in that head-to-toe hot pink and light blue that they looked like they took a bath in a melted down reactor core. It was terrible, no fashion sense at all
Battlefield had to change how they did things. Do you remember back when the OOR (out of region) players would come into servers with their 300 ping and wreck servers? They would drop you instantly and they were like little terminators.
Felt like that happened early on with Battlefield 1. I could be wrong, I’m not the best technical expert in that area.

Does anyone remember in COD the ridiculous host advantage that players used to have when they were host? Well this is similar. While playing the event last night I really paid attention to the opponent name and how the game played. Coincidentally, every game that had a name from or really close to where the alleged servers are (New Jersey, Florida, Chicago, Texas, Denver, West Coast) played really bad. I had a hard time getting hits in these games despite good pci placement, pitches felt faster, baserunning was terrible, felt like I was throwing slow pitch softball with outlier pitchers. It was frankly just a miserable experience. Funny enough the other games played fine. Getting rewarded, turning on pitches, etc.

You’re probably on to something. I remember in a different post a gentleman said that he was early on every pitch and you asked him if he was from like Florida or Denver or New Jersey. He happened to be from Denver. Of course it could be a coincidence, but I do feel people are having completely different experiences online. And it has to be something. So maybe it’s, as you said, proximity to servers. I’ve only been playing this game for three years, has a moderator in the forums ever commented on anything pertaining to a topic such as this?

They never comment on anything unless it is a I can't purchase stubs thread.
I've wondered this year why I am getting matched with so many people with Chicago, NY, Florida, etc in their name. Most of these games are horrible experiences. I still win some of these but the game play just isn't fun. Now, rebel is very skilled but I never see him experience the things I do. I am by no means saying I should be 300-30 because I don't care. I enjoy using different cards in RS. I just want a fun experience and that is dwindling.
I usually can't even see legend pitching. I should at least be able to see it. Reacting at my age may be a different story. Seems like people close to the servers with skill are able to turn on 102 legend easily.

How certain are you that when you play someone is a “host”?

Well, I think the home team is host but that doesn't matter when I play people from those areas. Again, if they are from those areas. The game play will be bad whether I am home or away. That is why home hunting doesn't really do anything for me.

I wonder if they changed a server location. Not sure.

Just because someone has a team name/logo of a certain city/country that doesn't mean that's where they're located.
My team name is the Altoona Curve.
.
I was born and raised near there; but I know reside in a different town and a different state.Haha nice! I used to go to their games. I grew up in SC so 30 mins away. Small world

Ok. I’ll keep that in mind next time I play. I sometimes get warping balls but sometimes don’t. I’ll keep an eye on if it’s me. (It won’t be me, but will see if it only happens when I’m away)

I'm really close to punting this game. Another laggy warping game spamming 93 mph sinkers that I had to swing as soon as the ball left the hand. Knew I should have quit in the first inning. If I quit every time, I would literally play maybe 40% of the games. Game is really getting not fun. You're telling me that 1000 miles away is the best opponent you can get for me? [censored]!
All the adderall and red bull in the world wouldn't help me catch up to these warping pitches. I have fun about 40%, rest is trash. Yep, tried switching DNS too, it doesn't matter.

They have done studies you know? 50% of the time, it works every time.

I don't think there is much to this. You named all parts of the country, so someone lives close by one of those places. I live in Texas and I live closer to Minnesota than El Paso Tx. So not sure how a TX server could benefit me when a Chicago server could be closer depending on where the server is in my state. Plus some of my worst connection games are against people nearby.

I have played 2 atl people, 2 chicago people and 2 california people just today and they have all been horrible experiences. I have also friendly quit out of 3 games. This game is getting unplayable. My best connection games are people from KC.

@D_e_m_I_s_E_PSN playing somebody from Wichita… it’s a lag fest, everytime I play somebody in the midwest it happens…
BTW, I’m the home team and I’m in NY. It shouldn’t be laggy

That is certainly interesting if they are from Wichita. Not real close to Denver or Texas.
I just had a game earlier that was very laggy. Struck out 11 times in 15 ab's against Ohtani who I usually hit pretty well. I would have quit this game in the 1st inning but the guy was a cheeser. Only guys that didn't k were daddy vlad and jr. Jr hit 2 HR's and he quit when Sr's was going over the fence. He would have had an easy win if he wouldn't have cheesed.
My games have been super laggy tonight and I have tried everything from changing dns, wifi and some other things. Nothing is helping. I usually make WS pretty easy but this one is going to be tough.

I always lag against midwest teams. I wish I know why.

Done with this piece of trash tonight. Can't take any more for today.
