Check swings impossible hitting

I am new to RTTS as I have an Xbox. I have switched to Zone hitting but the ridiculous amount of check swings is ruining the game for me. I smash the button but still here, at least once an at bat sometimes twice, "he tried to check but went to far" or something similar. Not to mention 98 percent of checks are called strikes whether you swing or not. Any way to stop this? I am constantly protecting the plate and swinging at close out of zone pitches because I couldn't swing at a pitch down the middle as the AI checks it.
Also, is Zone the best option? It seems as though you have to be about perfect to get a hit and even then 1 of 4 at minimum are just line drive outs. I am trying to enjoy this game but at the moment I wouldn't buy it for $10 because the difficulty in hitting for a moderate sports player is very difficult, in fact only game I have dropped down to rookie mode ever and I still struggle.
Any advice or tips? Especially on stopping the check swings as that would probably solve a lot of my issues with this impossible to enjoy game at the moment.
