So I've tried it and use it.
I don't have the patience to learn the whole PCI thing.
Also I use analog and use stride instead of buttons for it because I find my timing easier for me tbh.
Now it might sound weird to many but I've been using it for a while and am doing good with it that way. However I need to learn it a bit better tbh.I use it for the vs cpu grind moments etc. I tried online RS, its no good but im [censored] with zone as well lol

Problem with directional this year is they started showing opponents feedback this year, which tells people your using directional and makes it unusable.

The best advice I can give you for directional hitting is just learn how to time your swing to hit balls straight up the middle. Once you can do that you can work on hitting it to a certain side of the field. If you're a right-handed batter and want to hit the ball to left field you don't have to aim to the left, just swing slightly earlier than you normally would. If you want to hit it to right field just swing slightly later than you normally would. Vice-versa for lefties. It's that simple, all timing. Just be patient, have a good eye and don't swing at anything outside the strike zone.

I’m a directional hitter because I’m an old guy who’s used it since Atari baseball (!), yes, that old. Now I’ve been stubborn with the change but this year in particular it’s almost impossible to use online competitively. The pinpoint pretty much nerfed it. But I have gotten very good at reading pitches and timing (sort of) so I’m going to reluctantly start offline and get used to it.
From a tip standpoint, directional is all about patience and waiting for the right pitch. And timing. Issue is if you’re up against a good pitcher, you’re screwed in 2021.
I played Intellivison baseball and was still able to learn zone. Not the greatest of hitters, but definitely more rewarding than directional IMO. FYI, I’m 50.

When I first started playing I was directional and buttons for a good while. Running conquest and lower tier stuff it was fine. Then I had to play the Reds on allstar to get a Ken Griffey Jr card. Directional wasn’t going to get it done so I went to BP for a couple hours non stop on legend and used PCI vs Kershaw. Came back to DD and smoked the Reds

Kershaw has no velo, not the best pci practice

Biggest tip if your set on using directional and nothing else online and offline: Read the ball out of the pitchers hand. If you are able to take a lot of pitches you will draw walks and it will help you swing on time. Those two things are basically key to being good with directional. Hope this helps!

I see a lot of people talk about going to batting practice on legend to learn. I did it too especially after listening to some YouTubers. I (personally) think the better strategy that I’m working with is using rookie to understand the mechanics of zone better. Then, as I’m confident with placement, move up to get timing down. Otherwise it’s of kind of like asking someone who just joined the fire department to rush in the building on their own and put out the fire. Maybe you can, but most likely you can’t.

As others have stated here, I have been playing baseball games on console since day 1 and was used to directional hitting. So that was how I started this season. My son told me I needed to change to zone so I gave it a try and after some time, I was able to get used to it. Now I am older and my reflexes are no where near what they used to be, but I can hit ok with zone now. Zone is definitely the way to go for this game.

I don’t use directional but I understand it’s mechanics. You basically have to decide what you’re swing intention is before the pitch. Examples…If you have a right handed power hitter up like Vlad & you want to hit a homer - Aim up & to the left and only swing at balls in the lower and middle part of the zone. If you swing at high pitches you will just pop it up….Next example - Say you have a batter up that causes the defense to auto shift like Griffey - Aim down & to the left - This will push the ball down the line where there are no defenders for an easy double.

This was several years back. Also I was struggling with breaking stuff.
