Do I Really Need 99 Ohtani?
-
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how tremendously they failed with another ohtani card lol. No one is dying to get this collection done, but if they handled this card correctly it would be the best card in the game for the entire year. The fact that they didn't make it to where 99 ohtani can play the field every day, as well as start on the Mound every 5 games is laughable.
Edit. All year the argument was, "just because ohtani is lighting it up at the plate doesn't mean his SP card should be a diamond, when he has been just a mediocre pitcher"
What's sds do? 99 SP lol

You can bring him into the OF off the bench when he's not starting. He is fun playing with, as it's nice to be able to hit with a SP through the 6th or 7th to both save bullpen arms and not worry about "wasting key ABs". Also - compared to what it took to get 99 Rivera, he isn't that expensive. However, I would agree that there are many better "pure SP's", and he will likely get lit up at higher levels of RS.

Like every other pack they will eventually release them as rewards making the prices much lower for the players. If you are ok with waiting it will save you a lot of stubs.

He doesn’t have OF as a secondary. So is he considered OOP in the OF?

There's no need to have any specific card. A good team is needed to compete.

FWIW, I am 3 cards away and I am not going out of my way to buy any. I know packs will drop and I still I have a base round and mid round available in the HRD pack and a mid round in the ASG one so I dont see the need to spend stubs just to get him sooner. It will happen on its own

I'm still a few cards away, and play Offline. I'm saving up for Trout to finish the collection and don't want to spend to get the cards needed to get Ohtani.
I have his MA card to P3 and rake with him. I definitely don't need any more SP's or Outfielders so would you say forget about the 99 version? It all depends, having a pitcher that is 2nd tier and that is a top tier hitter is fun as hell and for me Ohtani is my fav swing in the game I'm very rarely not making good contact in his at bat but based solely on pitching there is def 5 better options out there.
-
No, is my thought.
I only play offline too.....but I ALWAYS use my 5th starter, so I get tp play against the CPU's 5th starter. Adding Ohtani and him being a #1 or #2 on my staff wouldn't change the way I play offline anyways. So, I'd save your coins. But YOLO! and stubs are rather easy to make back this year.

No. Only if u needed him for another collection. Ohtani has given up so many runs for me that having his bat in the lineup isn’t even worth it
