So I played a guy, he was hitting well over 330 with all his hitters. For the first 2 innings he couldn't get a hit and was flailing at everything waybout of the zone. Then when we went to the third I was up 1, he paused the game for while and when he came back he was hitting everything. Could this be that zen thing people are talking about?

More likely he is using the Astro glitch where he knows what pitches you select.

I thought they nerfed that in the latest update. They were suppose to eliminate trash cans from the dug outs.
Also to answer OP, maybe he took a few tokes of his special lettuce. Got back in the right frame of mind. Maybe he handed the controller off to a better player. But as I understand, Cronus or what it’s called isn’t scripted right for hitting.

That's cool. I was just wondering. He was probably just better.

I sometimes let my nephew play. And then when he's no longer confident he can win, he asks me if I could make a comeback .

I would think he was busy the first couple innings. Maybe he took care of whatever he was doing while paused and came back with zero distractions.

I sometimes switch between zone+analog with stride and zone+buttons if my timing is out of whack. Maybe he’s doing something similar, i.e. changing input type. I did today, was not timing it right with analog and switched to buttons, and my timing was better; didn’t get better contact though.

My bother comes over sometimes and will hop on a play. Sometimes we’ll switch off every inning.
