It puts too much stress on the servers and does not supply them with a great amount of revenue. It isn't good for business. It was the least played mode in 17.

According to the devs in the pre-The Show 18 streams, Online Franchise did put stress on the servers, and a contributing factor to why it was consistently played only by a small percentage of users would have been that it was so cumbersome and slow (because the server-side wasn't built with OF in mind). Other factors include the market moving towards a more casual approach to gaming, the rise of card-based team building, the online experience in the Show being pretty ordinary and laggy... others...

But they overhauled the server side of things for 18. It is probable that a more efficient way of managing OF was built into the new system (using the word system because I don't know what the right word is - engine perhaps?), or at least the door left open for it to be added. That is smart planning.

It will return, and in a tighter, leaner, more user-friendly form. Maybe not in 20, but definitely in the next-gen.

    That's my guess, anyway.

    Cue retaliation.

the thing with leagues is they never finished and there was no incentive for [censored] players to stick around. you'd have 1/3 of the players playing all their games.

they should build in a system almost like a farm system where if a player isn't around to play his games he can have someone play his games for him. something like that.

but their needed to be incentives for players to finish the season.

i just don't see it happening.

There is so much potential in that game mode. they literally only made the game mode worse each year if they upgraded at all probably could of caught traction it's the closest thing to real baseball but they probably won't bring it back at least not anytime in the near future maybe we need to blow up the franchise part of the forum so sds might see there is a following and maybe just maybe at least give us an answer please bring it back!

Agree, bring it back. OFM is better than DD in every conceivable way.

So much of this and REVAMP THE WHOLE franchise mode in general. It is so outdated.

Good thinking, although maybe make it an extra-innings mode vs CPU (to borrow from DD lingo) type situation rather than another player step in, where you play against that player’s squad but it is managed by the CPU.

They have aim for when a player can't play. The commish can even decide who wins.

My hope is that with this new merger happening with Microsoft, that they will be able to bring it back. I never played it, 17 was my first year back since 09. After reading up on what Sony and Microsoft are teaming up for, it sounds like a perfect opportunity to bring ot back
