Hey was having a conversation with my kid yesterday, he was asking where the Dutch come from. I said Holland cause I’ve always known the country as Holland growing up. Then he googles it and said Netherlands (as it should). I had to explain that it’s the same country, just the name changed.

Which brings me to my question, when did it change and why?

It has always been the Netherlands but Holland is easier to say and more recognizable. In our country we have 12 provinces and 2 of them are called Northern-Holland and Southern-Holland and that's where some of our most popular cities are, like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. I feel like that's why the name Holland is so popular globally compared to our actual name The Netherlands.

Gotcha. I just remember being younger watching the Olympics and it would always been Holland. I thought maybe there was a name change at some point

I always remember Holland because Derek Holland, the former MLB pitcher, was nicknamed the Dutch oven lol.

Nice try, see the Netherlands is this make believe place where Peter Pan and Tinkerbell come from.

Oh trust me, I do lol. Just seems like SDS turns a blind eye to it. It’s the only part of this game that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Not trying to flex WS, just wanted to point out that I mostly play the game competitively at a high level and had a long overdue concern. It’s been abused for years now tbh. They just break a bit too much.
