I’ve been seeing alot of posts here & also people on twitter saying how frustrated they are by not being able to break through to WS. I have made it both months & thought I would share what I do in hopes it can help some of you. I consider myself a good player but nothing special & certainly not elite, So hopefully what I say will be relatable & helpful. Here goes…

    1. I turn the two inner pci’s off & keep the outer one on with no fade away. I find it much easier to pickup & track the ball without all the graphics in the way. I also use regular old strike zone for the camera.

    2. I start the pci high where the pitcher releases the ball & never move my eyes from his hand until he releases the ball. I then track the pitch & try to get it in the middle of my enlarged pci.

    3. Take alot of pitches - Especially early. People do not want to throw strikes - Make them. Early in the game see at least 4 pitches, Do not swing even with 2 strikes during those first 4 pitches. It is ok to strike out. At this point you are just training your opponent to pitch to you.

    4. Use players with high contact attributes. This is very important when you are playing on legend & that pci shrinks.

    5. Have a balanced lineup of speed & power. Some games it’s a pitcher’s duel & you need one or two speedy guys like Lofton or Jackie so if they get on you can swipe a bag or two so you can bring them in with 1 hit or even a ground out. But you also need power hitters for those high scoring games…Balance is key.

    6. Turn off auto shift…You’re not pitching to the real Griffey Jr who has pull tendencies, You’re pitching to a total stranger who you have no clue if they swing early, late, ect…You can live with giving up a single up the middle. But a double or triple down the line against the shift - That could cost you the game.

    7. If you get frustrated when you lose a game - Go play a completely different video game until you cool off. Something that is chill & no stress. For me it’s the Star Wars Battlefront games & COD….Ranked Seasons is the most mentally stressing game mode in the world in my opinion. You need to be cool & focused and unemotional. If you are mad - Do not jump into another game. Some people cool off after an hour, Some after a day…Whatever your cool down time is - Take it. You’re only going to dig a deeper hole if you don’t.

I hope my tips help get some of you over the hump. I know it can be frustrating, Just keep grinding guys. You got this!

Great writeup @YankeeFan412_XBL! Quick question about stealing, my 95+ speed/stealing guys keep tripping halfway between the bases and getting thrown out. I had Soriano thrown out twice in one game, once with a 2 step lead and once with 2 /12 - 3 step lead. This has only happened to me in the higher difficulties. Am I doing something wrong or is it just a baserunning glitch tied to the catchers meter?

Edit: I say tripping but it is more like glitching and starting again at like half speed.

Strikes taken barely helps the pitchers confidence and that specific pitch blue bar; swinging strikes give huge boost. I almost always take 2 strikes before swinging the first 2-3 innings of a game. Some people will even just take for granted I'm taking and put it down the middle. I'll take a first pitch swing every so often to keep them on their toes. Now if I could get better at PCI placement...

#8 - Sit inside sinker and swing at every single one and make sure to give the 1B his daily goal of 10 soft pop flies.

My biggest problem is quitting out of games when i am annoyed. I hate crappy stadiums with lag and hate annoying opponents. If i only have time for one game then i quit out of those games that i feel are being no fun. It hurts my overall record and takes me longer to get to ws if i even make it that season. This past one i didn't make it past 840 i don't think.

Good post. One thing I’ll add: Make sure you are taking mental notes of the pitches being thrown to you. You should be taking lots of pitches at the beginning of the game. Often times you'll be able to find distinct patterns in terms of sequencing and/or specific counts.

Ok, I personally never get a lead. If I want to steal I just tap the left trigger once the pitcher is set & that’s when the high steal rating comes into effect. Guys like Lofton, Mondesi, ect will get a great jump 8 out of 10 times. Then all I do is hold the right thumbstick away from the bag so they slide away from the defender trying to tag you.

There is a glitch this year where they stand straight up and don't move. I know it happens with buxton alot. It only started a week or so ago..

Yeah, that is exactly how I do it. Preload the steal and let the cpu handle the rest but they do this trip thing 5-6 times out of 10. So it deters me from attempting the steal because I don't know if the game is going to decide to take my baserunner away in a crucial late inning push.

Yes! This is exactly what I have been experiencing and I have been in HoF/Legend for about a week and a half so I was blaming the difficulty. Then they start running again but they have to build up the speed again. Never had an issue stealing before higher difficulties.

I can add a few pointers for the old-timers:

    1. Find blueprints for time machine.
    2. Build time machine, set back 25 years.
    3. When lady at bar asks you if you want to meet her friend, say no (may not apply to all of you).

Hmm, I have not experienced this yet. I don’t know what to tell you in this case then bud.

Yeah I agree with this. I have faced people on HOF even who literally followed the same 3 pitch pattern, FB, CH, SL every AB. And I would add pick what you struggle with and go into custom practice for it i.e. I go into custom practice and try to time 100mph sinkers on legend vs Chapman or Sixto. Helped me to 22-4 this season

I hope my tips help get some of you over the hump. I know it can be frustrating, Just keep grinding guys. You got this!

Any chance you do something like this for BR?

This is a great tip that I live and die by. I am always perpetually just below WS, and just below 12-0 in BR, but it's the truth. There are 3 strikes to play with, and there's nothing wrong with going down looking if you have to. I want to add to this:

Become fearless, as you said, to watching pitches - but even more so - don't be afraid to take strike three with a batter on first and less than two outs if it's a pitch you know you ground out on - usually low. It's better to be at 2 outs with a runner on first with a fresh AB, than to end the inning with a DP.

The better you are at taking pitches you don't want to swing at, the better you will become. Watch lots of pitches. Figure out the patterns. Everyone has one. Wait for him to come back to the pitch you want, and take the swing you want at it. You might be early out of excitement - it happens - but it just means even more so that you're doing the right thing.

Today in my 6-0 run (which isn't anything special) I easily averaged 1 inning a game where I made their pitcher throw more than 20 pitches in the inning. In runs where I can't make 2 wins in a row, it's usually because I'm swinging too much.
