All the Jays need is health. Their lineup with Springer added is best in baseball.
Trade for a couple relievers, get Merryweather back.. put Pearson in the pen.
Trade for a starter if need be. They have a stacked farm -

Scherzer is a risk. FA at the end of the year and you would have to give up a bit.
He's available because he's an FA at end of year.. that's pretty much what you'll be able to trade for.
And you'd have to give up more for a pitcher with more years of control.You'll have to give up a bit for any good pitcher these days.. at some point that's just the price to improve..

It’s a tough ask, some future HOF hockey players choose tax havens like Florida with minimal fans over playing for the Maple Leafs even if they were born in Toronto so I just don’t ever see a real Ace signing for the Jays long term. Sadly.

Hmm?? Ryu took their 80million... He was 3rd in Cy Young voting last year and ERA title in 2019.. he's an ace...
Springer took their 150mill..I don't understand this argument.. the Jays have an insanely rich owner (Rogers Corp) and one of the best payroll flexibility situations going forward. They pay in American dollars as well.. the taxes are higher, sure, but most don't live in Canada anyways. And it's not much different than many states.
Not every team is in Texas and Florida lol -

The leafs argument is also false. They could get anyone to sign if they had cap space, which they have NEVER had lol. Since the birth of the cap in 2004.. before that they signed anyone they wanted.

Not every team is in Texas and Florida lolThose are the “aces” the blue Jays will remain getting. Bronze medals that give up more earned runs than strike outs for weeks. We don’t get the top players available, we actually celebrate getting anywhere close to them.
150 million for Springer is great, but better players are still getting 250-300 million from other teams. Teams not in Florida or Texas, just more desirable places to play and live than Toronto.
So yeah, if the third place guy in the votes doesn’t care about the money, or the weather, or the fact he’s not playing the most popular sport and for the most popular team in that city, the jays have a real chance at signing extremely specific players like Ryu, just never Bauer Degrom or Cole, we get the bronze and copper medals while LA and NY get the Diamonds.
If you earned significantly less coins and got taxed way more than everyone else playing this game for the next 5 years because you choose to have a Blue Jays logo it wouldn’t stay long.

Jays players won't be paying any Canadian tax until they play home games in Toronto again. Pretty sure their taxation depends on the game's soil location. As for payroll, I'm pretty sure the Jays were paying in USD all the way back in the 90s for sure. Possibly earlier, but I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to Jays payroll when I was in high school.
I've previously expressed a doubt about Ryu's lone playoff performance for Toronto, but it was a single game. I've got to assume he'll be better the next time around. He's certainly capable of putting up shutdown numbers despite the low velo. Ray is putting up great K numbers, Matz looks like the missing piece in the Mets rotation, and Manoah is no doubt going to be great. I'm a lot less concerned about the starters and much more concerned about the team getting relievers slotted into solid roles (and for sure, getting Merryweather back). The offense is so good Springer coming back is just gravy, which is wild considering how big of a deal his signing was.

It's just insane how Vlad has turned into literally the guy everyone dreamed on. He's leading the world in everything.
This team is going to be cheap and affordable for years. They have no more dead money after this year, and one of the best farms in baseball besides being already one of the youngest cores in the game. It's an envious position to be in.
They can overpay just about any free agent and still be in amazing shape this next offseason. And that's AFTER they just spent 150 mill on Springer lolAnd they've always paid in USD.
The fact that they can offset tax differences with overpayment by having enviable payroll flexibility and obviously one of the richest owners in sports makes that whole tax argument a non issue..Winning brings players..

Sure hope he stays hot, but this season is already a dream season for him. Just brilliant.
