What is a good Marichal pattern vs AI?
-
Going fine through these moments but still haven't found a good set of pitches to work through.
Only one that is not going smooth is the 1st one, 7th inning on do not give up a hit.
I get them all into 0-2 counts and then start throwing borderline strikes if not outright balls, pitches and they murder the maybe a strikes and lay off the just a ball.
edit: just got it done but patterns might be helpful for others.
Mostly I go FB in and low, change same spot, FB up and in or slider away. If you don't care throw junk 1st pitch because the AI doesn't have terrific success on early junk.0-2 junk seems to get slaughtered.
Ok another one, CB low and away. FB low and away, change up and in.
And another one. Screwball low low low low low because it still hits the bottom of the K zone. FB up and away, change low and away.
One more that is super fun, walk the 1st batter and then Screwball everywhere, High low in out. It's a circus.
-
I intentionally walk the first batter every inning. Can’t stand his wind up. used fastball to get ahead. Hopefully they don’t murder one early in the count. And the slider away to righties, slider in to lefties.

I use Up, up, down , down, left, right, left, right, b, a , start.

Hell yes, +24 power and +24 contact. When did they add this to the game?

Wait til you hang a screwball on the 'don't give up a single hit' moment.
-
Fastballs to 0-2 and offspeed out of the zone. The AI is dumb
-
Fastballs up and in mixed with change ups below the zone as like someone said above the computer will chase. Found his change up to be more effective against CPU but occasionally mixed in screwball.
-
I just pitched. Up and in, down and away, mixing all his his pitches and speeds. I gave up 1 baserunner between all the moments on a dropped fly ball in RF by Yasztremski. Marichal was a strike out machine for me.

I’ve noticed from grinding CPU stats for much to long that they are certainly programmed to a certain degree. They take a realistic baseball approach you can quite easily take advantage of.
Examples:
CPU very rarely swings at the first pinch until 2 outs in which case it totally reverses and they swing away much more frequently. Attack early with a FB but don’t miss and get behind, they become much better hitters ahead in the count, and terrible hitters behind in the count. Just watch the third out and don’t lob in meatball because he swings much more frequently.
CPU doesn’t chase much until 2 strikes, and frankly spits on pitches on the black like it’s nothing until 2 strikes in which case they become very undisciplined. (This probably has to do with them rarely swinging and taking that “realistic” baseball approach and not them having incredible eyes at the plate)
I find change of speeds more effective than getting them to chase for a strikeout, a change up low but inside the zone will force a swing and quite often a miss if you’ve just changed speeds, a change up in the dirt still gets spit on quite a bit, much more often than a swing and miss in the zone.
Batter 1: FB, then a pitch that changes speed, then the strikeout pitch you’ve saved for 0-2
Batter 2: repeat
Batter 3: off speed first because they swing more often and expect a FB, then the K pitch, then a FB and they are usually rendered useless.
I think I’ve failed 2 pitching missions this year, the CPU is much more programmed than you would think, I really think it’s the realistic approach to baseball the game makes them have, work the count, take pitches, fall behind 0-2 and have almost 0 chance to get a hit.
-
I try to throw whatever pitch and location the catcher calls, but with two strikes I aim for a spot just a tiny bit outside of the zone. On rookie and veteran, the cpu is usually dumb enough to chase for an easy strikeout.
