September 40 man roster

Hello,
I'm in Sept, and the game is telling me that I have 41 palyers on my 40man roster. When I try to release a player but it says that "Playoff eligible palyers cannot be removed from the 40man during september call ups" but if I want to play the next game I get the option of the cpu auto adjusting my 40man. How do I get around this so that I can choose who to remove? -

Everyting is already on Manual, all but scouting.
