Pitching impossible?
-
Playing RS through MLB 17 and 19 I lived and died by my pitching. Although my hitting has improved a lot since my MLBTS 17 days, my pitching is suffering this year. It feels completely random. Constant hanging pitches. If you don’t get your input perfect, it’s a hanger.
What makes it even worse is the called strikes. Numerous borderline calls being called balls. It seems like nearly 50% of the ball has to be in the zone for it to be called.
Is this from all the little Billy’s complaining that no one throws strikes down the heart of the plate?
I don’t even know who to use. Low control are constant hangers. High control you can’t even paint the corners because there’s no called strikes. At this point I’m thinking about grabbing guys like Chapman. Nasty stuff, 0 control and just saying hit it if you can. I know that won’t work, playing against above average players but something should be done.
Expanding the strike zone for called strikes would probably be the best thing for this game right now. I’d love them to revert hitting and fix pitching but I don’t see that happening.

dbarmonstarI think pitching is to random in this game user input is bad for pitching. I got down 3-0 and I was like screw it I will just throw whatever and wherever and see what happens. it was 3-1 than 4--1 by the 5th. after that opponent did not score. I came back scored 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. My opponent was predictable with his pitches and I finally was able to time them up. I think going forward I am not going to try and pitch to hit corners or hit certain spots cause it does not matter. I will pitch and just see what the Randomness will be.

I love how there is a thread about how hitting is impossible, and a thread next to it how pitching is impossible.... Haha pick one...

19 played almost identical from a pitching standpoint. Even in 18 you'd see change ups that just wouldn't stay down no matter what you did. I don't feel any difference and I've always been a player that got right to WS and never made it and could barely score 2 or 3 runs a game.
Here's one thing I've found for me right now though. Curveballs and change ups have to be set pretty much a ball length lower than you want it to go if you're throwing a strike. If you're throwing a ball with one of these, put it in the dirt or it's probably staying up too high.
I haven't had as much issue with 4 seam fastball locations, but cutters and 2 seamers hang more. I'm also nibbling a lot more on power hitters and so far it's worked alright. Don't be scared to walk someone. You're right though, the absolute worst part of pitching is the non-called strikes. If it touches the zone it should be a strike. Period. -
I get perfect release almost every pitch I throw, still doesn’t matter, game serves it down the middle for little Billy to crush.

As they've said in multiple streams, if you spam a non primary pitch, prepare for it to not go where you want it to. This is especially true for pitchers that don't have good ratings on a particular pitch.
This is what happens is you spam a slider as an example if it's your secondary. -

Period.See I heard a lot of people say the same in 19 and it was an issue to an extent. But for me personally it seems a lot worse now. You used to kind of effect the outcome but releasing early or late to make sure it would either be where you want it or a ball. Now it’s either perfect or center cut.

“Little Billy”, makes me chuckle every time. Might have to change the branding on my DD team to the Little Billy’s.

This is what happens is you spam a slider as an example if it's your secondary. That is a problem, now it is not user input. Then why do they not have something for Hitters, say VISION should lower on guys who can not hit certain pitches. If my opponent can not hit a secondary pitch I get punished for good user input I know it was like that in 19 but at least we got the black called for strikes at a higher rate. The real problem is now we do not even get called strikes on the corners. it pretty much how of the users hands if guys do not chase eventually you will get pitches in the sweet spot of the zone. Why are pitches hanging with a fresh arm?

Don't spam non secondary pitches. It's what the developers talked about in multiple streams. It's the secret of pitching. Which I agree, shouldn't be a secret..

How many are we aloud to throw in an at bat before it lands in the middle of the plate, I only can throw say 2 curve balls to a hitter. If I mixing up pitches not spaming 3 or 4 in a row secondary pitches they should not go down the middle, I use all the pitches a pitcher has and mix it up, but pitches still land down the middle. I should be able to go back and forth with pitches. It is not just secondary pitches landing down the middle it is the primary pitch to.

I'm not a developer so I don't have all the answers. What I will tell you, is knowing this information has helped my pitching tremendously and never have an ERA over 3. I'm usually sitting at 2 on ranked seasons the last 2 years they've been doing this..

I usually have a good ERA but this year not getting the black called as strike and more random pitches in the zone than 19 is mind boggling to me. I depend on my pitching. I knew you can not just spam the same pitch. It is the most frustrating year for pitching. If I get those calls on the edges, than the random pitch down the middle does not happen. I am not worried about walks. I rather walk a guy than it get crushed.

But this game is not real life baseball and in real life certain pitchers always got the edges and a little more IE Maddux. Why does the game not call strikes with pitches out of the strike zone that is real life to?

But this isn’t real life baseball. There’s a set strike zone and strikes are being called balls.
Maybe they’ll just turn on variable strike calls. Sounds like a developers band aid they’ll use.

As is often the case with subjects like the one in this thread, I haven't experienced the issue being described at all. In fact, I've been glad to see how responsive pitching is to actual input this year - depending on player skill and confidence, naturally. I use Pure Analog.
