Messages during a game
-
I was playing an event game last night. As soon as the game started a guy tried to get me to join a party chat. I of course ignored it but he then just started messaging me. It wasn’t even the guy I was playing but his buddy. The message said his buddy was 11-1 please let him win. This guy then sent the message “plz” over and over and over, as fast as he could type it, for the whole rest of the game until his buddy quit. It was obviously a plan between the two of them before the game even started to distract his opponent. I know you can turn messages off or block people, but I had never done it, and honestly did not even know how. And it wasn’t something I wanted to try to figure out with limited pause time. It was very annoying and distracting to have messages popping up every 2-3 seconds, luckily I still won. Anyway, I wanted to report the 2 guys to SDS and PlayStation but was unsure how to do so. I sent a chat on this site to Victor@sds, is that how to report players? Anybody else have this happen to them?

happens to me all the time. I have received worse things in the middle of games like racial slurs in an attempt to make me quit. This all happened in 19 so I turned my messages off by going to Settings>Account Management>Privacy Settings>Messages>Only allow messages from friends. Bro this is one of if not the most toxic gaming communities in the world and I wish there was a way to fix it but reporting players seems to be ineffective at the moment.
-
I’ve had people send all sorts of horrible messages, but usually after a game, never seemed worth reporting before. This to me was crossing the line, as it was a 3rd person creating a constant distraction.
-
I have my settings set to where no one can send me any kind of messages.
-
It was likely not his buddy but probably an alt account of the guy you were playing. That way if he was reported it wouldnt affect his main account. Regardless, it's silly and sad.
As for the settings - under your msg settings you can fiddle around with whatever you like. At the very least I'd recommend turning off pop-up notifications for msgs so that you don't have the annoying notifications in the top left corner every time someone sends you a msg.
Beyond that, if you wanted to report him for harrassment to psn that is available in the actual conversation window between the 2 of you. Rude language, and excessive msg's back to back are things that playstation actually will take action on. 1st offense is a 3 day online ban I believe.

How do you report that on psn? I tried, I found the report option, by hitting options on the messages, then it gives choices of: something in the gamers profile, something that happened outside of a game, or something inside a game. If you select inside a game, it just tells you to report the gamer to the games support. If you select something outside the game, it brings up more options including messages but will not let me scroll through or select any of them, just lets me select ok on that screen and then it just goes back to the psn messages screen. No chance to explain the issue and no confirmation that the complaint was submitted, so I doubt anything comes out of it. Hopefully something comes back from victor at SDS but haven’t heard back from him yet. Maybe he is not the one who handles these things? I have no idea the proper way to report someone to SDS? I do have the gamer tag of both the guy I was playing and of the supposed buddy.

It’s a shame that people have to do this because of the bad apples. I faced a dude with an awesome logo earlier. I tried to send him a message to compliment it, but he has messages blocked as well. Also hate when that happens when you try to say good game.

I totally agree. Wish sometimes I could talk after the game when it was good. Just isn’t worth the headache for me , because of the bad experiences

Yeah I would rather not turn messages off but man it was super annoying and distracting. I actually walked a couple guys in a row when he started sending the messages every 2-3 seconds, before I was able to tune it out. If the guy was a better player the plan might have worked.

Yeah I always have my messages blocked. Just screenshot and report these guys. There are tons of these types for the first few Months of the game.

I turned off message notifications solved
