I've been holding off on some big purchases (read Mike Trout) hoping that we get a flash sale and I get him for 380k instead of 400k

A flash sale will not make Trout fall in price, if anything he will go from 400k to 450/500k. This is why I took him early this year because I fully expect him to reach 500k eventualy.

He’ll be there by the end of the week at current pace. He’s almost 440k right now, 12 hrs ago he was 420k. That’s why I don’t see a flash sale, market is inflated and still going up. A flash sale would send prices sky high.

Agreed completely, if people think a flash sale is going to help them complete the LS collections they are sadly mistaken. I don't think we see a flash sale until June at the earliest even then July is more likely, at that point the game will be 4 months old which seems like the perfect halfway point to me.

Wait, prices go up during a flash sale?

Doesn't that run counter to basic rules of supply/demand?

A stub sale would jack the market, not an increase supply of cards. What am I missing?

Simple, during a stub sale stubs are 30/40 % off therefore more people buy stubs because of the sale and that floods the market with even more people rich with stubs from the sale hence raising the prices of all cards. Stub sales do NOT make cards fall in price.

That's what they are saying in the first place. They are wondering how an influx of cards from a flash sale would raise the prices of cards in the market. One would think that an abundance of cards would mean cheaper prices on said cards.

Same sort of principal, supply will increase in a limited fashion, and so everyone’s stub balance increases as well, so not as thrifty and thus prices go up. This market doesn’t follow exact economic principles. It’ll go down on select cards from the special packs.

Were you even around for flash sales last year? While trout in particular won't drop a bunch(90+ is like 1/25 odds from the pack IIRC), all the 85-89 diamonds and the specialty cards drop in price drastically. 95 times out of 100 you are going to lose stubs in a flash sale. The rare tier space cards will approach the price of the pack

Exactly. A flash sale drops the price or cards as everyone looks to sell off. Those with stubs swoop in and buy up and wait for prices to bounce back.

No... flash sales definitely lower the prices, mostly of the 85-89 diamonds. And special packs of course. I made a lot of stubs last year buying right as the sales hit then selling later that day/week.

My apologies for this, I was mixing up a flash sale with a stub sale. Absolutely a flash sale will make lower level diamonds tank.
