Depends on the TV you're having. If you have a low input lag TV (use game mode) the difference is negligible. I have a Samsung KS8000 and it has just a few more ms of input lag compared to my monitor. I hardly notice the difference and I've had success on both (1000 rating, 12-0 runs). I play on my monitor nowadays because I use my TV to actually watch TV while playing but I wouldn't mind playing on my TV if I had to.
People will tell you a monitor makes all the difference in the world and that's just not true. Does it make a difference if you have a high input lag TV? Yes it does. Is it absolutely neccessary to compete? No, not really.
The ks8000 still has about a 20ms response, for tvs this is great but a good monitor you can get under 5ms. Idk about you but thats a pretty big difference.
Absolutely false, you're mixing up response time with input lag. My monitor has a 1ms response time, but about 16-17 ms input lag. They're not the same thing.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ks8000
input lag: 20ms
response time: 18msyou can find monitors with better results in both categories
Isn't this exactly what I said though? The monitor you mentioned does not have 2.3 ms input lag, I can guarantee you that.

Nah it does 12.3ms at 60Hz but we’re just ignoring that now I guess

well at its native refresh rate it does. at 60hz its higher but still better than most tvs

I have a bad habit of forgetting that most people only game at 60hz. I typically quote at the native refresh rate bc thats what I pc game on. regardless at 60hz its still better. and there are better monitors than that one

The point is still that most monitors sit around 15-18ms input lag. Like you said (correctly in this case), the KS8000 sits at about 20ms input lag. That difference is negligible just like I said it is in my initial comment to this thread.

in this specific case the monitor is slightly better but most people arent playing on ks8000s which is considered one of the best tvs for gaming that was ever manufactured. Most high end sony's or samsungs are in the high 20s

Paying extra for features built far beyond the PS5 capabilities doesn’t really make sense when you could spend less for higher (quicker) performance is the point. No need to look beyond 60hz, certainly no reason to pay a premium for 120hz if it hurts the performance at 60z.

It was in 2016 yeah, but it's 5 years old now. Most newer TVs are very competitive when it comes to input lag, especially OLED TVs.

TU8000
It was like 500$ and the input lag at 1080 60fps 4K and 4K 60fps are both below 10ms.
80% response time is 4.5ms and then the 100% is where it’s a bit worse at 14ms.
It’s pretty [censored] good value as far as the Theshow is concerned. Just doesn’t have any extra stuff for the future which is fine. When games catch up I’ll then invest in a monitor

Depends how old your TV is. Most newer TV models that support game mode rival or are close to monitors from a display lag perspective. If you have an old TV, you’ll find that the difference is night and day. My Tv was 8 years old when I bought my monitor. Made a huge difference
I dont think this is true, most newer tvs in game mode are still in the 10-15ms range while a good monitor youre looking at 1-2 ms response time. pretty big difference
Response time and input (display) lag are two different things. You won’t be able to find a monitor with a display lag below 5ms
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/benq/zowie-xl2546k
input lag on this monitor is 2.3msOne thing you have to remember there is PS5, this game I should say, runs at 60FPS. That monitor has 2.3ms IL at 240hz native resolution. So hooked up to a PC via Display Port. HDMI on a PS5 at 60FPS it has a 12.4ms IL. Which is par for the course. Dont be fooled by those other numbers. look at it compared to what you are using it for. 60FPS games the fastest you are gonna get is around 9.5ms. And 9.5ms to 12.5ms arent really gonna be able to tell the difference.

Already addressed this in another post. even at 12.3 ms its still better than most tvs. Also I can tell a 5ms difference but that might be bc I only ever game on monitors.

True. And Response Time is just a marketing gimmick. Almost no monitor has the Response Time it claims. Especially the ones that claim under 4ms. And it is just a color thing anyways. GTG and how fast a pixel can change colors and prevent ghosting and such.

I wouldnt say its a gimmick bc response time is real. its just theres no single standard to measure it so every manufacturers numbers are different. Its fine to use as a comparison technique as long as youre comparing two devices from the same brand.

Yes but for what we look for with this game it means nothing. And by gimmick I mean what they print on their boxes. They are always incorrect. Just there to catch peoples eye thinking it means the Monitor is faster or something when in reality it does nothing speed wise. Just helps prevent ghosting when the monitor is fast.

PS: You are speaking like a PC gamer lol. I also play any other games on my PC. I have an RTX 3080. Consoles dont use all the stuff we use on PC. Response Time and crazy low input lag isnt really a thing on console.
