Has anyone gotten to successfully play a friendly against someone on the opposite console? Every time we try we accept the game challenge and can’t get off the next screen.
If anyone has had luck let me know what you did.

Nope, me and my friend try every day after the server maintenance. We played all night the first 2 nights then after patch 1.01 no luck. Maybe it's disabled until they get the server situation under control. Not sure how that works though.
