I wouldn’t call this an unpopular opinion. I’d call it consensus.
But then again, I’m not sure it should be. Imagine a new car is released and everyone loves it. Amazing new features, fun to drive, beautiful, fast, efficient, something for everyone...but it doesn’t work past 7 pm on weeknights or on weekends.
Well yeah but the server issues will be fixed at some point, at least to the point where everyone will be able to play without being disconnected every 10 minutes. The core mechanics and gameplay of the game will be there all year though, and I'm happy with the changes in those areas.

Apart from the server shenanigans, I'm enjoying the game. Pitching improved, check swings are pretty much nonexistent, animations improved and hitting feels balanced. Still a bit cautious because it's only been a week, but I'm already enjoying it more than I ever enjoyed 20 at any point.
I'm on your side with that !!! plus... with like 20-25 games in the back pack I only played 1 stupid idiot who bunt cheese 6 of his 9 starters and he had only 3 hits... So yes the game is pretty good when we can play it ! Wish you good luck this year !

I agree that all of these are nearly perfect after the last few years a small patch will lead to another and another and pretty soon there will be problems.
I love the game where it is at currently, besides the obvious. But once better cards start coming out I fear they screw with hitting to balance it out like they always do. And it probably wont be good.
I’m more fearful that could happen even before the good cards come. Right now my batting averages are exceptionally high. The reason though is starting from zero I was playing on whatever is below all star so everyone tees off. I’m also hitting well against people who don’t pitch well. The games I’ve matched up against people that mix things up and pitch better I’ve had trouble. That’s how it should be. I’m assuming many people are having this happen and after a few weeks of collecting data sds may decide hitting needs to be toned down and that seems to be when things start to go off the rails.

I hadnt even dared to play H2H games yet. Zero RS, Zero BR and I think 2 event games. Just been grinding showdowns for TA cards.

Check swings are massively broken on the PS5. Not just a little...MASSIVELY BROKEN. Sometimes I'll barely tap swing and it will be an awful follow through; other times I'll press it much harder and the batter barely goes into a swing animation. I even had two calls last night where the check swing replay information showed I'd clearly gone around, yet the first base ump said no swing.
Aside from those frequent moments, the game is legit. But check swings need work...after the server [censored].

The reason they did this is because it was literally broken last year when not a single check swing would be called for a strike. That's worse than what it is now. It seems they have trouble balancing this mechanic, but I prefer the way it is now. If you don't want to swing, just don't tap the button at all.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Based on what we were shown during the livestreams, I SHOULD be able to just barely tap and check. That's part of the game. Not tapping the button at all is, yes, an obvious way to not swing. But if the option is there--and it's supposed to be improved--make it as such.
They need to know these things and make the changes. If we're paying up the [censored] for this game, I want a product that's as advertised. Constructive criticism should be acknowledged on some level at least.

Well we can agree to disagree. I have no issues with a 90% strike called rate when you tap the button. I do have an issue with a 90% successful check swing rate like last year, because it bails out the free swinging scrubs.

I agree, I just don't like the way contact hitters play. Contact hitters with low power are basically not useful at all. It's like the player needs to have 70+ power in order to have perfect perfect either be a HR or a hit.
If I get a perfect hit with someone who is a contact hitter with like 30 power, 90% of the time, it ends up either a line drive out or a ground ball straight to the infielder. -

I'm with you on the last portion. Absolutely. I suppose my experience with '20 was slightly different, as I had plenty of check swings not go my way (when I knew they shouldn't). Was it skewed towards giving the hitter another life? At times, yes. But what we're seeing now with an even greater skew of simply not knowing what you're going to get, is more infuriating in my opinion.
Good debate here.

You just gotta try and look for your pitch with a clear goal in mind, like going the other way with it or pulling it down the line. And of course don't try to get under the ball which you normally would do with all the big bats.

I do agree with that, but I don't mind getting a K when I tapped the button and it doesn't go my way. I tell myself it was a ball and I shouldn't have tapped it in the first place because by doing so I give the game an opportunity to ring me up. I prefer that mindset.
