Why don't walks count towards "Total Bases" Moments?
-
Isn't that the reason why they make them "__ Total Bases" Moments in general?
I'm confused here...
-
Total bases - A home run is 4 total bases, a triple is 3, a double is 2, and a single is 1. Walks, steals, sacrifices, and other non-hit advancement do not count as a total base.
Because thats the rules broseph. HBP didnt count until this year, so at least they changed that.

Hopefully this doesn't come off wrong but I am aware of the total bases that each hit would give you (but thank you still). I would think a walk would amount to a single base towards the total, as I wouldn't classify that in the general category as a stolen base; and if a HBP counts, then I would have to think they intended for walks to count too, no?

I literally quoted how "Total bases" is defined in the baseball rule book. Idk man, take it up with Manfred.

Alright so I dug deeper.
The total bases divided by the number of at bats is the player's slugging average
Walks dont count as at bats, so they couldnt be calculated. HBP SHOULDNT count, but the devs helped us out on that one this year.

Hmm... well, if that's the case, I can't argue too much I suppose. Just seems strange as I think most players have about 50x the homeruns they do walks that play this game, so you'd think that maybe they would reward you for walks.
Anyway, thanks for the clarification. I guess just take this as a "PSA: Walks WILL NOT count towards your base total in Moments" thread then.

Heres the full text from the MLB rule book.
Total bases refer to the number of bases gained by a batter through his hits. A batter records one total base for a single, two total bases for a double, three total bases for a triple and four total bases for a home run.
Total bases are used to determine a player's slugging percentage -- which is total bases divided by at-bats. A player can only add to his total-bases tally through a hit. Advancing on the basepaths -- even via a steal -- has no impact on a player's total bases.

I think that's where I wanted to go with this. That makes a ton of sense when you point out that a walk does not count towards a player's total at-bats.
My point is, you don't walk accidentally. It's definitely earned. You see what I'm trying to say? But you definitely answered my initial question.
(Over here arguing about a set rule... ahh, jeez.)

Reward what? The RULES OF BASEBALL is that “total bases” are specific things and walks are not one of them. This is not the developers making this rule. This is an actual baseball rule. When they tell you to get total bases they are talking about the baseball statistic...that’s why the previous poster said take it up with Manfred... ya know... the Major League Baseball commissioner??

No, I totally get that. When I posted this, I had thought it was something that counted towards your statistics other than On-Base Percentage (OBP) but what @ZFree1122_PSN also said was that SDS recently changed HBP to count towards these specific missions, it would seem odd then if it were unintended for walks to count to, keeping in mind that SDS has no problem stretching the rules a bit when it comes to these.
That's all that I was getting to, I think.
