Anyone know how to invite friends from another console?

Trying to play with a friend on Xbox, but don't see anyway to add them as a friend in game or anything. I figured it'd be similar to how Warzone handles cross play.

You just need to put their username in, when playing online mode

I search xbox gamertag and get no results found. Not sure how to play an xbox friend now
