Xbox Series X - Can't launch game

Yesterday; game worked fine. This morning I went to launch it and the "press any button to enter" screen comes up. However the game won't acknowledge my button press to play. It just sits... then eventually starts a demo game. I can press start to interrupt that. Then I end up at the main menu screen where the game says it can't currently connect to the server and my controller is unresponsive. If I press the Xbox guide button the guide opens. My controller works just fine.

This morning I deleted all my game data, reinstalled the game from scratch and it worked fine. Came back to play this evening and I've got the same issue again.

Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions? Or should I just pack it in and get a refund.
