To people who a super disciplined at the plate and don't swing at any pitches out of the zone, what are some of your best tips to develop a better eye at the plate?

Give yourself a 3-3-3 rule. Only 3 people can swing at the first pitch, 3 people can swing after 1 strike and 3 people have to have two strikes in order to be able to swing. This forces you to see more pitches. And the whole time you do this track the ball with the pci.

    But custom practice works.

By people do you mean players in your lineup? Interesting strategy.

The more I play the more I tend to not swing at balls. You just have to see more pitches and recognize what the other guy is throwing. Try to pick up on his pitching tendency’s like does he keep going to a fastball up and in and then following it with a change up or curve in the dirt. You have to recognize the curveball at this point... I still have issues of sometimes swinging away in the beginning of a game and then becoming more patient as the game progresses.

Also be more willing to not swing at bad strikes that are going to cause more harm then good

Yea this strategy is used with your whole lineup. You assign before the game each individual and what amount of strikes they get. You stick with that strategy until the game ends and it will def improve your discipline.

Before you know it you find yourself waiting on a lot of pitches.

I didn’t come up with this btw. This is used by a top 50 player

I would also add pick a certain part of zone for each person in your lineup, and only swing if it goes there. It's ok to take strikes in the zone cuz sometimes those are the ones you hit for dribblers or pop ups. Oh one more thing and you learn this early in RL keep eye on the ball, watch pitcher release and follow ball. Good Luck! 🙂

If it’s a ball, don’t swing. If it’s a strike, swing. That usually works for me

    Reminded me of:

"Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way? Turn!" (Baseball relevant because the movie ends at Dodger Stadium)

I think he means to get to the point where you have the ability to recognize pitches. There are strategies that work to develop that discipline in the game.

I mean this year all you have to do is leave the PCI middle and wait for a hanger... lolol. I like the 3-3-3 thing because it seems to allow you to focus and watch more pitches for recognition.

I feel like your ability to read pitches grows automatically over time. The more pitches you see, the faster you'll recognize them and the easier it is to lay off. One good tip if you struggle with discipline is to take until 2 strike counts consistently for the first 3 or 4 innings or so. That way you allow yourself to see a lot of pitches and it forces your opponent to throw strikes as well, as he will most likely notice your patience. And then when they think they can pound down the middle for an easy first strike after a few innings, you punish them by hitting it out. And then if they'll try to paint the corners again, you go back to being patient. You can play some beautiful mind games in this franchise when you're at the plate. Use it to your advantage.

Focus on release point and follow the ball. That’s it.
