I keep every card I can that isnt worth a significant amount if stubs. Last year I got Trout in my 7th pack and sold him for 300k immedietly.
But why? I am almost positive that when I bought trout to get Mantle on April 20 he was still 300k.
I used Trout to complete 5 other teams.

I am new to the game and wow I have no idea what people are talking about in the comments. I’ll probably get hosed in DD

Is there a reason you sell certain players and keep others. Why wouldn’t you keep a guy like Trout? New to the game so am curious as to how this all works.

By getting Trout release day and selling him for 300K; it allowed the OP to complete other LS team collections.
Thus he got back some of the stubs (not alot), XP, and knocked out those teams. Once a team is Collected you don't have to collect any more of the players that get assigned/upgraded to that team. This helps if a player jumps to Diamond or a prospect is added. (When a prospect is added; you're looking at close to 2-3K, as a Common, for the first couple weeks.
Yes, eventually he would have to rebuy Trout, if he doesn't pack him again, but stubs are easy to come by just by playing.

Now, the reason I would sell certain players, compared to keeping them:
From release day until 3-4 mos into the games cycle; Golds, Silvers, Bronzes, and Commons are all highly inflated. Last year, during the first few months, LS Gold Joey Gallo (84 I think) was around 15K. He was what high because of his Power, his META, and he was 1 pt away from being a Diamond.
After a few months he dropped significantly in price and eventually leveled out at 1K; which is quick sell price for Golds.
As for Diamonds: Unless I pack/get for playing Trout, Verlander (if he stays Diamond), Scherzer, Cole, or Arenado (all who will probably be the Gatekeepers for their respective Team Collections Reward) I'll sell off any other Diamond as they'll also be over inflated in price.
EX: The 7 SE Diamonds they gave out last year as pre-order bonuses were selling for around 20-30K on release. They were 85-88s. After about a month in; they gripped to 10-15K and a month later they dropped to ,quick sell which is 5K.
Plus since I only plan on playing the cpu for the first couple months; I don't need to worry about my team. I can get way with Silver, Bronzes, and Common players.
The ONLY thing that would keep someone from not selling a highly over inflated Diamond/Silver player, other than getting the Big 5, would be is SDS decides to make the preorder packs non-sellable.

As a new player, here's my advice:
You have the option to lock cards in for collection rewards. Don't do this early on, and maybe not at all.
If you get live series diamonds, sell them early on, their price will drop drastically soon enough.
If you get gold cards that go for more than 4 or 5 thousand, sell them.
Never use the "quick sell" option.
Never buy packs or stubs.

Same strategy every year for me, get the BR 12 win reward and build team with the stubs

You’ll get there...

I pray nobody spends 1000$ on the collection and individually locks each card in then gets to 90% complete to find out auto select is infact a option. I honestly hope no one does that can you imagine how tedious that would be.......
Legit didn't want to play after I done that
