Time for a change

I appreciate that there is a pandemic, and there are now multiple platforms to code for, but I think we have come to the point where a “new” game every year is not ideal.
There are not enough significant changes from year to year to warrant an entirely new game at $99 or whatever.
I think a base game with DLC updates would make a lot more sense.
Do we need to grind every year for the same cards over and over?
Roster updates and new seasonal content can keep the game fresh and relevant, and let’s be honest, the amount of major gameplay changes from year to year are pretty minimal.
I think shifting to this paradigm makes a ton more sense.

I agree with the sentiment but definitely not with the proposition. I think it's time to rebuild the game from the ground up, new engine new everything. I know that's easier said than done but it's time and has been time for a few years in my opinion. Especially now with the next gen consoles, it would be the perfect time to do this.

That's what's awesome about it coming out annually...you can pick and choose when to get it! If you aren't happy with the changes you can skip a year and come back. I doubt any of these sports companies are going to stop annual release

Yup, they need to get this game on the Unreal engine. Now that it’s cross platform maybe they could make it happen.

But why would they (and other's like them) do that when they can put out marginally different (note I didn't say better) product and the suckers will still buy?
Less costs for the developer and more profit.

I mean maybe, but for how long? I am already reading comments from players expressing disappointment at how little has changed this year.
Financially, I think the model could easily work. New content and roster updates get released throughout the year. They could easily be part of a seasonal DLC.
I mean, I think it’s only a matter of time before the current model starts to fall short. Not surprising that cross-platform is happening now.
Most of us want more from a new $99 version of the game than reskinned cards, the same gameplay and animations with slider adjustments...

What I want for my money is a game to actually work the way it's supposed to and that it makes sense. I dont need more STUFF in the game (that's how you end up with the ability garbage that permeates madden). I simply want the gameplay to work flawlessly.
I also want less RNG lol

I know that's unfortunately how things work. I can you this from my own experience though, I went from playing 1500-2000 RS games a year back in 2016 and 2017 to barely touching 50 RS games in 19 and 20. I play BR until I'm loaded with stubs and own every card and once I do, I'm out. I haven't played an online game in months, maybe even since September.
So I went from being a very heavy user to someone who sticks around for maybe half of the game cycle, sometimes not even. And I know for a fact I'm not alone in this regard.

I think I agree in the sense that most of the time they rush the game out then patch it all year.
