Certain balls at the wall get some weird animations
-
The game engine determines off the crack of the bat if something is supposed to be a hit or not. If a fielder catches up to one of these “hits,” he will not get his glove up or the ball will bounce off of him. (Incidentally, you also see this on ground rule doubles. An outfielder will take an extremely unusual path to a ball that bounces over the fence.) At this point in the game cycle, a lot of the cards are better than what the game engine figures for, so we are seeing some really weird animations in order to get the outcome that was “supposed” to happen

I'm not buying this. We've had Fotf Buxton since the beginning of the game cycle (max speed & def) and he was catching things just fine after they patched fielding so that gets rid of that theory. As well as every other player mentioned in this thread (released months ago and not being as goofy) up until what seems like recently where things have gone haywire again.

It is just a theory and you’re right that things have gone haywire in this game lately (not just with fielding) but It seems like when a lot of really fast outfielders catch up to a ball now that a slower outfielder wouldn’t have gotten to at the beginning of the year, the ball just bounces off the fielder or his glove. Seen this multiple times with Finest Betts, awards Griffey and 99 Mays, all late cycle cards. Maybe the game figures something in with Buxton and his ratings that it doesn’t with these other ones. Maybe Buxton’s ratings aren’t as high as these cards are (are all 99s, or in Buxton’s case 94s the same?) but I find it odd that so many of these supposedly great defensive cards are having balls bounce off of them, with the game registering it as a hit and not an error.

Lol yeah the scoring is yet another issue, smh

Happened to me every other at bat in the previous event. The ones that didn't go over the wall bounced off the wall and it was a mess, just like the early days after release.
-
I haven't seen this myself. Over the past week I've played games in Events, Ranked Seasons, Conquest, and Showdown... error hasn't shown up for any of my fielders.
-
I've had my hits deflect of diamond OF's gloves twice the past week or so, but both times they were fully outstretched and it was on ball's I 100% thought were hits off the bat so I didn't feel that bad. It's happened to me a couple times too.

Had it happen to me with Mantle. Two outs, fly ball to the wall and mantle never locks into the animation. Off the wall for a triple

I don’t really play much now, a few games once a week. Last Thursday was the last time I remember playing and I didn’t notice this issue, although they’re probably busy coding it into MLB ‘21 as we speak, in which case we should get a patch around early May that finally resolves the issue, only to break a few other things, maybe the catcher throw meter again or the home run OSD. Yawn. I wish things were better, I’d love to genuinely enjoy this game and want to play it again, but the gameplay is a dumpster fire this year.

Griffey Jr. seems to be the worst for me. He has a mind of his own.

Yup, inexcusable, it's either this or the [censored] missile hit to the wall where our OF catches up to it but instead locks into the ribbon and plays the bounce. It's ridiculous. And I've experienced this with prestige Mantle as well. Other OFs: Acuna/Trout, guys I don't count because they're universally known to be goofy to begin with: Griffey & Cobb...overall just not feeling having to go through this all over again I thought this was behind us months ago.
