Another relay pet peeve:
You know how when you grow up playing baseball and all your coaches always preach over and over that when a ball is hit to the outfield, the 2B and SS should both go out for the cut and the 1B covers second base???
Yea I don’t remember that either but apparently that’s what they were taught at SDS because it happens ALL THE TIME.
Well it’s called a double cut and it’s meant for long throws from the outfield to 3rd base or home. It’s quite common in the higher levels of baseball. In this game however, there will occasionally be a double cut to 2nd base. That’s likely because the game read the batted ball as a stand up double, but due to the runner’s lack of speed and the huge arms everybody has in their outfield, the play at 2nd is closer than the game originally predicted.

Why would you ever need to guys going out for a cut standing next to each other? It also happens on singles all the time.

One guy goes deeper into the outfield and fields the throw if it’s not a particularly strong throw or if it’s easy for him to handle (right to his chest.) The other guy is closer to the infield and fields the throw if the first guy doesn’t field it (too difficult to handle or if he gets overthrown.)

On a clear double, usually ball to the gap this is a double cut and the exact right way to do it.. SS/2nd line up in a line 20 feet behind the other to adapt to an overthrow, first base trails he runner to second...

I have literally never seen a 1B take a throw at 2B. I’d love to see a video of this.

Here’s an example of it working correctly.
The reason there might be a close play at second on a double cut in The Show is because what the game thought was a stand-up-double was a bit closer than it predicted.

1st base has to trail the runner to second in case on the cut, that runner has rounded the base too far and they can cut to second to catch him in a pickle.....I coach a top select team in the country for their age and we have taught our kids every situational rotation, including all versions of this one......I encourage their families to let them play The Show as the game does get all of these situations correct for the most part....

I appreciate you taking the time to post that. You clearly have a lot of baseball knowledge.
The example I’m talking about though is where my 1B is posted up at 2B straddling the bag and taking a throw from the OF. Both my 2B and SS will be going out to take the throw.

Always happens at the worst time

Ok, I guess I haven’t seen this one....only thing I can think of is maybe you are playing a human opponent and he has chosen not to throw to his cut and threw directly to second.....1st basemen really never beats the runner to second for the tag in, so that is weird and would bother me too...
