I always liked him and I don't really care about the fact he hasn't managed in a decade. He obviously knows the game and age is just a number. I think it will work out, he certainly has the resume and players respect him.

I dont think he will resonate the same respect. He's an old school mind on a new school team.

I guess only time can tell, I could be miserably wrong. Never really know, but I do know that usually names are discussed with key players in the clubhouse.

Being a Cubs fan I watched Lou Pinella zone out game after game in the dugout. LaRussa great baseball mind back in the day but I think the game has passed him by.

Honestly doubt LaRussa is all there, he's a HOF manager so he can get by on just name alone at this point. Still, he pretty much fumbled the WS in 2011 and got bailed out by Freese.

Hey I mean if McClendon can coach when he was 80 I say we give LaRussa a shot at this at least. This White Sox are going to be great next year either way and if they can learn anything from him I say it's a win.

Yea I’m having a hard time seeing how he is going to relate to our young core.

Read a quote from him saying he doesn’t respect people kneeling for the flag back when the whole Kaepernick thing happened. Doesn’t look like he’ll last long with the new school way of showing emotions and bat flips and such.

How'd that new school baseball work out for the Rays? You leave Snell in and they might win 1-0. At least it would be a better shot than what they did.

exactly my general sentiments maybe these babied pitchers might gasp throw more than 80 pitches or even complete some games

Exactly my thinking. Could be more hurtful than helpful to the team. You see what happened when the Padres coach tried to scold Tatis. He thought twice

My “new ways” are not analytical at all. Every team uses analytics but shouldn’t be a deciding factor more of a guideline. A good coach adapts to his surroundings. Hope he’s up for the job and not an old stick in the mud

Ummmm I would say pretty good. They made it to the World Series I think. Problem is the coach trusted the numbers to much. But hey blame the way that got them there, that makes sense too

Many reasons. Famously, calling the wrong guy out from the bullpen.

    As referenced here:

For your enjoyment, this read written right after:

He also proved completely ineffective in a FO role with AZ. You can sweep that under the rug tho since he has managerial experience strictly from on the field, but trust me, his uselessness wasn't loss on Diamondback fans.

Either way, HOFamer but he has no business around this talent whose of severely different philosophies playing a game that has vastly evolved in the last 9 years. I'd gladly quote myself and declare myself an idiot 12 months from now if need be. But I almost completely guarantee this is a bad signing.

I thought that pitching debacle was more of the miscommunication lilliquist had over the bullpen phone.

Have to defend my Padres and Jayce Tingler a little bit here. He gets a little too much criticism for scolding Tatis Jr. in regards to swinging 3-0 and hitting that grand slam. He did scold him a little, but the main reason was because he disregarded the take sign he was given on a 3-0 count and swung anyway. If Tatis Jr. wasn't given the take sign I'm not sure there would have been any scolding, but if a player ignores a sign I would say that he deserves to catch a little criticism from the manager.

Are you glad you guys got rid of Renteria? Two teams now have gotten rid of him before playoff runs. 🙂 At least two, not sure about others. It just doesn't seem like he is a good championship coach. 🙂

Yea I have a problem with “old school” sports. If you give me a meatball with the bases loaded or [censored] no one on base you bet your [censored] I’m smacking that on you. My job is to beat you and demoralize you so next time we play you will remember it. Nothing needed to or shouldn’t have been said to him about it. Man is making peanuts right now so not a big contract. I can keep going but it’s not worth my time. Tell that to the football players that were made to go back out on the field with concussions cause that was “old school”

Renteria seemed to be coming in to his own. You could tell at times he was lost trying to make a decision. It’s not the age that bothers me I don’t need some 30 year old coach just someone who has the pulse of what’s going on now a days
