So, I was watching a Koogs video, and he said something like this: If, according to this tweet from SDS, we won't hear anything about 21 until 21, maybe that is why they are holding back on Mays. Maybe they will release him in December so that people stay.
My theory: WHAT IF Mays is the 21 cover athlete, so they are waiting for pre-orders? It is just an idea, so don't slam me because of it. Thoughts?

That would make sense but I bet he isn't. They'll probably make the cover athlete Tatis or Soto or someone exciting and young. Seeing an old player like Willie Mays on the cover of a new game doesn't catch anyone's eye, especially since they've had his rights for a few years now and he won't be new to the game.
