Yeah this game is all about outslugging your opponent unfortunately.
To be fair though. It's almost impossible to have it balanced without nerfing good contact. There are definitely things they can do like stop hanging random pitches, but on the upper levels where people are pci gods, it will always be about outslugging your opponent.
I think they can balance it out by allowing us to paint corners with good pitchers. That way pitching strategy comes back into play and you can dominate a match pitching wise. I'm talking from experience as well, back in 17 I played numerous top players who at the time were way better hitters than me, but I was really good at pitching and that allowed me to stay in those games and sometimes win them as well.
And I said that there are things like stopping random hanging pitches. But that wont stop the best players from scoring a ton bc they can hit anything. The only way to truly balance it in that scenario is nerfing contact and I don't think any of us want that

I really don't think they have to. The problem now is that you can sit offspeed away and still react to the high inside heat almost every time. They should make it so that you have to eliminate parts of the plate and look for locations for a pitch to hit, just like in real baseball. Pitch speeds play an important part in that.

That will never happen, Sds will never make the game that hard.

Well it was that hard back in 15, they balanced it out in 16 which is still generally perceived as the best edition of the game to this date. Then 17 became slightly worse with new ball physics and well.. then 18 came and we all know what happened.

And you only need to look at the sales numbers of 19 and 20 and the direction SDS is taking the game, we arent going back to 15/16 type of gameplay.

Yeah, it wasn’t always like this. ‘18 was the start of a long process of totally ruining gameplay by catering to the lowest common denominator who wanted nothing to with an actual baseball simulation. Now it’s just home run derby and you can have the greatest pitchers in the game running 5-6.00+ ERAs while being successful. It’s absolutely disgusting in my opinion and totally detracts from the online experience as a whole.
To people who say they find a more simulation based approach boring, why on earth do you choose to play a game based around a sport where a game can take four hours to complete with a lot of the action being condensed into a few short minutes of that time? Why then demand that the developers dilute the depth of the experience to three innings with four or five times the runs and hits you’d expect to see in third of an actual game in the name of “fun”? I don’t get it at all. There’s no psychological battle between hitter and pitcher in this game, no trying to fool a hitter with finesse. You have to toss it up there like salad and hope this isn’t the pitch the game decides to arbitrarily award your opponent a home run on, even if they swung early out in front and didn’t get the PCI squared up. Then you line out and hit choppers to infielders on exactly the same kind of swings because you just missed it. Garbage.

We need a perfect/perfect type system for pitching. The PCI can touch every part of the zone so there’s no “unhittable” pitches per se, I really don’t see why pitching should be so random with good input.
-
They could start by letting you get called strikes on the black. Jesus, you have to pitch 75% of the ball on the black to get a call.

Nor should there be “unhittable” pitches in the strictest sense of the word. However - There’s not really any way that MVP Trout, even with 125 power against RHP, should be pulling a slider down and away off the plate, outside the zone, 400+ ft to LF for a bomb though. It’s like a shooting game now, you put the target on the ball, pull the trigger and BANG! Baseball doesn’t actually work like that, go take a bat and try to hit a baseball at all. It’s tough to make contact. Making perfect contact is way harder. Even when you do make perfect contact, you’re given no guarantees as to the batted ball outcome. Does that sound anything like MLB The Show?
