Just Your Periodic Reminder
-
I feel like I have to post this once a month and my calendar says it’s that time again:
Devs: Per the MLB rule book, pitches on the black are strikes.
In RS, the umpires are supposedly set to “perfect,” yet routinely miss this call.
It’s not realistic. IRL, the majority of missed calls from behind the plate are pitches OFF the plate being called strikes, not pitches IN THE ZONE called for balls (that does happen, but not nearly as much). In this game, pitches on the black are 50/50 AT BEST.
“Perfect” is perfect. You can’t call the setting for the umpires “perfect,” when they miss this call at least half the time.
Okay. Back to your regularly scheduled programs.

Seems pretty easy to see in this game that if more than half the ball is in strike zone it’s a strike and less than half it is not.

I've noticed the pitches will come in on the black, but the feedback will show just off the plate. It's like those perfect/perfect foul balls....

That’s not the MLB rule, though. The rule is, if even a thread of the ball is on the black it is a strike.

Thats why there are arguments about balls and strikes pretty much every game in real life...

I don’t think you guys are following me...
If the umpires are programmed to get every call correct, there is a major problem with the programming.
They don’t miss foul ball/fair ball calls. They don’t miss safe/out calls on the bases (bad tag animations notwithstanding). They don’t miss homerun/ground-rule double calls.
Why do they routinely miss ball/strike calls?
It shouldn’t happen. I hate that it happens. It ruins the game, and invalidates the so-called “perfect” umpire setting.

it ruins the game. waah wah wah. Thats why no one is taking you seriously. cuz youre whining

Maybe “ruins” is too strong for you. Maybe ruins “the game” is off the mark.
It certainly ruins the umpiring.
Why are you willing to accept this particular missed call? Would you be willing to accept missed safe/out calls? Foul/fair ball?
What I’m arguing for is the integrity of the rule book.
But based on your contribution to this discussion, I don’t expect you to understand that.
Thanks for coming. Peace.

Not making excuses for the calls, as it in theory it should be fairly easy to get calls on the black, but even the RL computer umps aren't good enough right now to be used in the Big Leagues, computers aren't as perfect at calling balls and strikes as people seem to believe. Now that probably has to do very little with why the game can't do that, but still.

I understand that. I think what bothers me is that it is the ONLY call they miss. So to me, the argument for “realism” can’t be made here, because the umpires are absolutely perfect in every other call.
If they missed other calls periodically then we could say it’s an attempt to make the game experience like real life. But when that’s not the case, it’s a blatant disregard for the rule book.
