If I’m starting a franchise today I might consider starting it with Robert

I would too, even though he's been slumping lately. 5 tool player for sure, tons of potential.

    I’ll go Tatis

Not even a full season under his belt. Nor is he even the best player on his team nor the best SS in his division.

The most obvious choice is Justin Verlander for the last 3 years. Currently its Freddie Freeman or DJ Lemahieu

Agree to disagree. If I’m a GM and want to build a team around a player not named Trout, It’s Tatis, Acuna or Soto. LeMahieu can be argued and Freeman is solid but no way part of the conversation. Acuna wayyyyy ahead of him

If we're building a franchise, absolutely agree with you. But in terms of the best right now its the ones I listed.

Acuna with the sleeper being Luis Robert (I see huge things ahead for him and the White Sox are lucky to have him)

This is based on nothing and I’m not a hater but I have a gut feeling Acuna fizzles out

    The Market says:

    1. Verlander - 169,999 Buy Now
    2. DeGrom - 164,880
    3. Trout - 158,500

So... according to this... Trout isn't even the best player. The question should have been "Best player not named Verlander".

    The Market has spoken.

The market really is weird right now.

First time I’ve seen Trout not being most expensive LS card in 5 years

Thats definitely not true. Mookie was more expensive than Trout for the last 4 months of both 18 and 19

Acuna and Soto, probably. Let’s talk in 2 years and maybe we’ll put Luis Robert on that list.

(Jose Abreu is having the best year in the AL this year FIGHT ME).

I agree he's the MVP so far but it's close i think it's the average that sets him ahead of Luke Voit or Nelson Cruz at this point. I never thoughtn Voit or the 40 year old Cruz would challenge for a MVP award 2020 is insane.

I had a feeling as I was scrolling down after reading Tatis and saw Ikasnu responded we would be getting a comment like that. I won't say I entirely disagree though. Story is VERY good and has been doing it a long longer than Tatis Jr. I will say though, Tatis is coming for that title of at least the best SS in the division, if not the best SS in baseball. Some would say he is already there but I understand your argument. With not even a full season under his belt he still has something to prove.

Obviously the Cardinals outfield of Harrison Bader, Tyler O'Neill and Dexter Fowler, all other teams are so jealous of that highly productive outfield.

Kidding aside though, that's tough to pick one. Probably Soto? I mean Trout is still considered #1 and he's not really the defensive whiz he was earlier in his career, so I don't think Soto should get dinged for it either.

But I do think Mookie has a great case as well. I don't want to count the troubles vs lefties as an issue until we get more of a sample size then this season, he hit .368 vs lefties in his 2018 season and was ok at .271 last year.

Jose Abreu finally figured out defense and he’s actually an above average defender this year. If his offense is roughly equal to Nelson Cruz, then — and this feels very very weird to say — Abreu’s solid defense puts him over the top for the MVP imo.

Tim Anderson is a better candidate than Abreu.

And I don't want my bias to get in the way of the statement I made, I legitimately believe Trevor Story to be, possibly the best SS in baseball currently. Tatis has played very well, and i firmly believe he will be (the best) in the future, but right now he is just high and low. Slumping badly right now actually and in a full season we've yet to see what he can do consistently.

Thats all that holds Tatis back is the fact he hasn't completed a single full seasons worth in his career when many other SS have and have either continued to be dominant or have fallen off a bit.

No question in my mind that Tatis will haunt the NLW for many many years though. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite players along with Kyle Lewis.

I think Mookie is if you are considering all 5 tools. Soto is a little short defensively but is super good offensively. Tatis Jr is up there too.

If it wasn't for Merrifield playing CF, the Royals would crush the Cards in outfield incompetence. I do like the pick up we got for Rosenthal. Got some potential there. The Royals have already succeeded my 21-39 prediction. Bullpen has been a huge surprise and really good. Really like what I see in Singer and Bubic also.
