Because that's how it was done in 17/18/19, the only reason it wasn't in 20 is because of the season being delayed in real life, it was inevitable they go back to this,
How many were needed last year though and how did the process work?
Honestly, I don't remember, you needed the majority of them though (I think you did need all of them, but I am not 100% on that). but back then you also didn't get as many free topps now as they are giving out this year, so it's anyone guess.

What im wondering is, will we need the topps now cards and the POTM cards? On the collections screen it says you can collect both for this collection but it isn't clear as to whether or not we will need both. My hope is that all the topps now cards will be enough.

So it says 30, but there's only 27 on the market. Are you guys saying you have collected 27 or 30?

27 is max currently.

It's for the three remaining that are coming out this week

That's what I originally was thinking, but the I have all the cards needed for POTM already made it sound like there were already 30.

Well that's unfortunate. I don't do collections for cards its just locking in way too many stubs for me.

Will probably be new set this week to finish out the month. Last yearit wasn't topps now we needed for lightening cards it was monthly awards.

It has to be Jesse Winker. Not only did he perform the best OPS wise, but he also doesn't have a diamond.
Tatis, while deserving, has 2 diamonds already and is without a doubt going to have another at some point this year.
Give Winker some love. Max Fried should get a 95 ovr POTM card but Winker should be the big Diamond.
I've been collecting these Topps cards with the expectation of getting Tatis but I won't complain if it's Winker instead.

I've got all Topps Now, but no idea what I'm meant to do with them when the time comes.

So you think all 30 topps will just unlock tatis or whomever the Potm is? Thats a crazy expensive card if you ask me haha. Hopefully a mix of collections and moments.

It basically says that on the July/August PotM collection page though. As of right now it says to collect 30 Topps Now/PotM cards to unlock the Lightning player for those 2 months. The only cards available to lock in now though are Topps Now cards.
There might be moments/missions to get the lower PotM cards that will then be available to lock in , so I suppose that's an option.
