I know the feeling brother. All too well. My current biggest frustration is Ketel Marte. I knew he was going to something special too.

Hindsight can hurt, for every team. Think about the Royals. Albert Pujols is living and playing in their city, but they passed on him 13 times because he was a little tubby.

Just like the cubs traded eloy Jimenez and gleybor Torres. That makes me sick to think about that.

Still early of Course, but it is looking like one of the all time worst trades. Up there with Babe for cash and the Chris Archer trade(more recent, but glasnow and Meadows are both young and well worth it for archer)

17 year old that had just signed...

At least you got Eloy for Quintana...

Any time my white sox friends bring that up i ask the how James Shields is doing lol, Eloy is solid but Tatis is a superstar

To be fair, he was a 17 year old amateur free agent when they traded him.

Huh? If he was an amateur free agent than he wouldn’t have been traded. I think you mean he was traded before he ever played a professional game. He was signed by the White Sox as an international player from the players pool and was at that time a free agent.

I didn't know I had to break it down so much. They signed him as a 17 year old international free agent. They traded him before he ever played a professional game.

I mean the Cubs did get a world series from those trades but yes it hurt/hurts to give them up.

It was a bad trade, but I still think Pedro Martinez for Delino Deshields (Sr.) ranks ahead of it as one of the worst of all time.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but I don’t fault them too much. He wasn’t a highly touted prospect at all, and if I remember correctly, they traded him right around the same time Tim Anderson made his debut. They were all in on TA and there wasn’t much buzz that Tatís would be anything special, so taking a risk on a veteran pitcher wasn’t the worst thing they could have done.

If we want to be outraged about the Sox misjudging a prospect, let’s not forget they were one of about 25 teams to pass on Mike Trout.

It's funny how people say this was a bad trade by just comparing the two players who got traded for one another. First of all, you can't always scout someone's ceiling correctly. It's fair to say that no single MLB team anticipated Tatis' ceiling to be this high or he would've been signed for much more and held way more trade value than he did. Secondly, it's even harder to anticipate on a guy reaching (most of) his potential this quickly. Some big time prospects take years in the minors and sometimes don't live up to the hype, while other under the radar guys just seem to click one day and light it up from that moment forward. You can't 100% accurately scout any of that. It's always easy speaking in hindsight.

Tatis for the only guy who has given up a homer to Bartolo... seems fair to me

The Cardinals were the only other team to scout him, but didn't want to pay the 200k more the White Sox were willing to

Another dumb miss by our brain dead management, they desperately could've used a young star bat like ole Jr. Cardinals are a toothless offense right now

Hindsight is always 20/20. For every Tatis there’s 100 busts. Yes it sucks now, but your team made a for now trade. Think about this, imagine being an A’s and Rays fan. You continually make great trades, develop top talent, yet the organization is unable to pay their top players and are forced to trade them away and do not make many win now moves because if it fails, they set themselves back for years until they can build up again. They are the shining examples of just being 1-2 pieces away from winning it all. Granted the white Sox are one of the most historic losing franchises, but at least they’ve shown some instances of being willing to gamble for it all

The Phillies say hold my beer. Ryne Sandberg and Larry Bowa for Ivan DeJesus.
