I think Blackmon and Soto go Diamond
-
it would be a crime if Blackmon don't, 26 ABs is real small sample for Soto but .423 with 4 HR makes him diamond worthy.

In a shortened season I wouldn’t doubt if they just start handing out upgrades left and right. Every other year they had to “prove” they are diamond worthy but this year is so short they kinda have no choice

Marte has been a hitting machine and currently has silver hitting. Already a gold defender with good speed so any bump to his offensive stats will get him to diamond. Also don’t sleep on Lamet going up to a 82-83.

Soto? Based on what? He has 26 ab, and yeah he has gotten off to a hot start since be reactivated from COVID list. I think he’s an 83 (might be wrong) but part of his problem is not offensive, he is a barely serviceable outfielder from a defensive standpoint, and he’s a left fielder. The one place in the field that you don’t have to be great to be good. And he does not perform well there. Believe it or not defense is just as important as offense. So I don’t see that kind of upgrade until he becomes a better defender.

Based on the fact that’s he a top 15-20 player in the game and should’ve been diamond from the beginning. Harper is not a great defender either and he’s diamond... if we’re being honest Soto is the better player anyway

Yeah not sure how you come up with top 15-20. Maybe top 50. But It’s subjective. My top 15-20 will probably be different to yours. It doesn’t change the fact that until he becomes a more reliable defender he’s not getting that kind of upgrade. And Bryce Harper is not a negative WAR defender like Soto. Actually I believe Harper had a positive WAR last year plus Harper has a much longer track record than Soto and I’m by no means a Harper fan. Just pointing out a fact.

Well that’s because Harper plays RF in Philly where you take 2 steps and you’re at the wall. When Harper was in Washington his dWar was a -3 compared to Sotos -0.7. The top 15 statement is subjective I guess but the guy is an MVP candidate with a ring on his finger and already 5 homers in the playoffs. At... age...21

I’m not in disagreement with you that he is a dynamic player from an offensive standpoint, he is as elite as they get but his extreme defensive problems at a position that is by Mlb standards the least difficult position to play really brings down his worth. If he became just a replacement level defender he would get my vote for diamond status. Until then he just doesn’t cut the mustard. Even Castellanos from the Reds has improved defensively to deserve his diamond rating. I guess we’ll see. I could be wrong.

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from as well, it makes sense. He is by no means someone who will win a gold glove, at least not yet. But my line of thinking is that you have Diamonds like Springer, Castellanos. Ramirez and Alonso I don’t see how you justify not having Soto in that range. He’s better than all four of those guys.

Agreed. Juan Soto has the hit tool to be the BEST hitter in baseball, period. There is NO hitter in the game as confident in the batter's box as Soto. There is also not hitter in the game as enjoyable to watch when he is at bat. Dude loves the game and it shows.
-
Castellanos not only has not improved is real life fielding, he got his Diamond with only an increase in hitting. So if given a big enough boost, Soto could go Diamond.
-
Can Eric Lauer go to a tier below common?

Personally I love Soto, he’s as talented as they come. I’m not a Nationals fan either. I think in 3 years the best player in the game discussion will be between 3 guys, Soto/Acuna/Tatis. And out of those 3 Soto is already miles ahead in terms of accomplishments and he’s the second youngest out of the 3. Soto is an otherworldly talent IMO
