Confused about Twitch drops

So I just belatedly signed up for Twitch drops and I am confused. You have to watch certain Twitch streams to get these, correct? Will I be notified when one becomes available or do I have to go looking for myself? And (sorry) can I get the old ones or have they expired?
I have the Twitch app and I am following MLB The Show 20 but see nothing about drops. Or is it only if you watch the streams live as they happen?

@Quint75 First, go to my account and click link your account with Twitch. Once it says that that is linked, go watch twitch! Mostly just SDS streams, so the weekly roster updates, inning reveal, etc. Every once and a while, there will be drops on content creators streams.

Twitch drops will happen pretty much every time sds streams live for their content update. “Content creators” will get drops every once in awhile, but basically follow sds on twitch and different creators and you’ll get notified when streams happen with drops
