Hitting in '20 is pretty close to hitting in high level or professional baseball. You have to scout your opponent and pick up their patterns, sit on pitches and zones and look for your pitch. You are not going to be able to clobber everything thrown at you. If you face someone throwing dots at the 4 corners, you're going to have a tough time. Great pitching still beats great hitting. My advice, is watch some YouTube instructional videos from top players who talk about their approach with the PCI. It can help a lot. Go into Custom Practice, choose a tough lefty or righty and then set a 3-0 count (fastballs) or an 0-2 count (off speed/out of the zone) and practice and then practice some more. The best thing you can do first, is stop swinging at balls. Force your opponent to throw strikes, it can help a lot. Take pitches, your opponent will get more aggressive in the strike zone if you're patient.

Hi guys.
I have a BenQ monitor and usually a wired connection depending what room I'm in.
My luck in the events has been terrible. I'll get maybe 2 wins out of every 10 event games I play. It just sucks all around for me.
I played an RS game last night against a Bronze player. Somehow he got all the luck with some fluke homeruns. I didn't, and I even managed three perfect perfects and a few goods.
I've switched between SZ, SZ 3, and Offset Zoom. Doesn't seem to matter much.
I cant even pitch anymore. I'm not sure how people are dotting with Maddux and Orel, but I rarely can.
I'm about to switch back to meter for the first time ever and see if there's any difference.
Happy to do some practice in an online game with you for sure, i've done it with friends - straight fastballs only, or only sliders etc. It helps get timing down.

I appreciate the offer. Please add me. My username is the same in game as here on the forum.
I could use some help.

This game has been updated to make the already expert players that much better than the average player like me. I use directional hitting for two reasons, 1. I cannot get the hang of using the PCI with any consistency and 2. I don't see where a PCI has anything to do with a real baseball game. Bring the experts down to using directional hitting and they will be no better than me or any other average player using directional hitting. Let's play baseball like it is intended to be played, not with a carnival type target game. Hopefully this game will be vastly improved for everyone to enjoy & compete on an even keel when PlayStation 5 comes out at the end of the year.
The pci pretty much represents the bat. The closest hitting interface to being realistic is zone unless you wanna start slinging a Wii remote around. This ain’t no carnival man, it involves hand-eye coordination just like real life. If you like directional that’s cool, we all have our preferences. Directional has less control which equals more RNG. I’m no animal at the plate but I want the most control that I can have. I’m not knocking you or anyone who uses it but don’t act like zone isn’t fair or realistic. Why should top players have to step down on your level? One gripe that makes sense addressing is the timing window/ pitch speed issue while limiting our hitting interfaces is not one at all.

Ok.... here's my input. YES hitting is sooooo hard. I would try a couple things. 1. Maybe it is your tv/hdmi/input lag. I have a 42'' in my room and I can do better with less lag than the 60+ I have in my living room. I cant hit anything on my 60+ TV. Maybe you need a smaller tv or even better, a gaming monitor. Thats what all the great players play on. 2. Get a kontrol freek. They do help. 3. Try using different grips with the analog stick. Different ways to hold it with your thumb or pinch it with you index finger and thumb. It does work sometimes for me. I agree though it is HELLA hard this year.

I would bet that you and I are pretty evenly matched in terms of skill at the plate in this game--in fact you're probably a tad bit better--but one thing that has helped me a ton lately is switching camera perspectives to regular Strike Zone for a little while and then switching back to what I normally use (Zoom).
I don't know if this is something that you've tried but it's something that has helped me of late and I'm someone who constantly finds myself feeling all but hopeless at the plate on any skill level above All-Star.

The toxicity is what makes RS miserable. And then having the thought of wasting an hour to a cheeser and losing...

I always tell myself that I want to quit and it's not worth the effort I put in. I'm a terrible hitter, my average is .189 and ERA is like 4.45 and a terrible 43 and 89 record, but for some unknown reason I keep playing.
I grinded out Mantle only to realize that it was worthless because I NEVER really use my team, because I SUCK online.
To me unless you really dedicate time to play online and use your team to the fullest, DD is a worthless effort. I used to be a franchise guy, but that became very dull and stale so I switched to DD. It was fun but I'm just so bad Im in the same boat. I try but also losing interest.
I don't know anymore, maybe it's the age thing, Im 48, hard to say. I love baseball, but not having fun really wears you down. -
Hey man I just want to say very well written article! I happened on this site the other day after playing the game and everything you said was spot on and still is, four months later. Complete proof sds only cares about money. I'm a brand new player and not a complete moron- I've finished all conquests minus mays and Tebow and I've only been on a month and a half and didn't need YouTube- I can think for myself. I saw a thread where someone said they've been playing for years and haven't figured it out so I understand the audience. Video games are supposed to be fun and this isn't, id spend money to buy a player if it was but no matter who you have if you're new or inexperienced there's no reason to open the wallet. I had a dude talk trash to me because he beat me 2-1. He had reggie Jackson and other folks, I gave up 2 hits with 74 Frankie montas. Dude thought he was tough, pitching duels are cool when you're playing the best- when you're [laying a scrub like you 23-22 games are fun-isn't that why we buy, to have fun?

Played an event game today. Shipping stadium in the daytime, guy was wearing white uniforms and I could not see the ball. Basically I was just guessing on the pitch and I got lucky and ran into a fastball. I won the game with 1 run on 1 hit. My opponent was able to get five hits. Win or lose that is no fun.
I actually forgot this was a thing and played in the sun at a minor league stadium guy didn't have full white only trousers but couldn't see a thing.

this post is still relevant 4 months later and sds obviously doesn't care, smh. this will be my first and last year playing this attempt at a baseball simulator
-
I'm going to bump this until I get banned again or sds listens and makes changes- I think the ban will come first.

The timing window is completely shot with hitting and the PCI is as small as it’s ever been. Pitch speeds are also faster than they’ve ever been.
My honest opinion is they got butthurt at all the complaints out the gate and cranked everything up as an FU to the community.
Everyone needs to kiss and make up and SDS needs to find a happy medium. The game was playing great at launch.
99% of people saying it was too easy weren’t even at HOF yet. It was rewarding good input. That is completely removed from the game now.
Pitching is a mess, you can’t paint corners or anything really. Sometimes you’re forced to throw a meat ball because you know more than likely you won’t be able to locate your pitch.
Fielding is a mess. I’ve legit lost games from outfielders not locking on to fly balls.
Baserunning has a mind of its own. Sometimes the runner will just keep running.
Of all the stuff I mentioned, the most broken aspect of the game right now is that timing window. It is completely shot.
And if you leave pitches cranked up so fast, we will lose all the new players you acquired this year. I know a ton of them personally that are about to quit.
We had a lot of momentum coming into this year’s game. Even with it’s flaws, last year was a success. SDS is the only company in these team building games that isn’t a bunch of crooks.
I still believe in this year’s game. The next patch has to get back to what was so fun at launch.
I’m enjoying the game. I think If more people tried directional hitting, classic pitching, and throw meter off fielding, they might enjoy the game as well.
Lol. Seriously?

Three click helped me aljttle for fsb's off speed not so much. The timing isn't the same for the same pitch from the same pitcher. If someone sits on 102 id love it, because i could time it consistently. Batting is just having the feel for when to swing. I whiff, I swing super early on curves and I chase into the dirt. But I also hit at least 1 hr a game. I play small ball, (my luck its always a 2 out rally though). You already found your answer, just use directional. Use what works. I switch between all three when I slump. Swing timing is the issue right? Well just work on that with directional.
What helped me the most is that if I was early I would offset the pci 25/75 (inside/outside the ball) that would allow me to swing at the same time but the bat takes longer to come around.
coming up with this made me start considering push and pull hitters too. Pull hitters swing early and push hitters swing late. Now imagine the effect on timing. So make sure you know your line up, and structure it so you can keep track.
Last thing Jean you told someone that they are bad and need practice, when the op stated they suck, and no matter what couldnt improve. The op is seeking help, i.e. trying to get better. If the op can adapt to the system there is one less person to complain about the system. Instead of putting the op down share your personal approach and help another member of your community that is on the verge of quitting a game that they love(d). Im not trying to insult you or anything, just give my perspective.

if anyone wants to add me for practice and experimenting with techniques feel free, tell me what pitchers and pitches to use i dont mind.

You speak the truth... I am SO sick of winning (and losing) 1-0 and 2-1 games all the time!
