Pitcher set position, from offline to online
-
Hello. I hope you're all doing well. I recently, within the past two months, started playing Ranked Seasons. Before then, I was playing offline modes exclusively dating back to December or so in 2019's game. I'm trying to get used to seeing the ball out of an online opponent pitcher's hand. In offline play against the CPU, the pitcher comes set when throwing from the stretch. I'm either getting quick-pitched a lot by online opponents when they're out of the stretch, or the old balk rules don't apply in the 2020 version of the game, or both.
Does anyone feel like the pitcher's delivery can be rushed, forcing the hitter into being undisciplined, in online play?

its just another way the game differs greatly between modes or offline vs online. people today don't have the patience to dedicate an hour to a baseball game. so SDS has done everything they can to speed things up, which often means not getting a chance to breathe as a batter in online games.
personally, its another example of why this game is just not a fun experience online anymore. and if youre looking to get better at the game online, you just have to suck it up and deal with it, just like the over abundance of RNG or pitcher confidence unrealistically turning your bat into a pool noodle.
long story short - the way this game plays offline vs online is night and day. its unfortunate that the gameplay experience isnt the same across all modes. but when you have a baseball game market without competition, there's not much consumers can do but accept it or not buy the game.

Have balks been removed from the game entirely? I played 2019's game all offline. Before then, I hadn't played online since 2016's game, and balks were a rule then.

balks still exist in offline modes, i believe. settings to turn them off/on should exist. (i admit, ive not looked to turn them off/on, so i may be wrong...)
online modes, balks do not exist.

My initial idea all of a sudden is to take pause time for a quick breather when an online opponent is pitching from the stretch if they're not coming set, maybe after every single pitch. If a pitcher wants to rush and quick pitch, I would think taking pause time between each pitch as a batting team could be needed. Hitters at a lot of levels in real life will ask for time from the home plate umpire to break up the pitcher's rhythm.
Quick pitching every once in a while has been a technique in baseball for a long time, but quick pitching when there are no balks is a different story.

Since balks are turned off in H2H games; it's a cheap tactic that some people who have a 'win at any cost' mentality.
Easy way to rectify it is to have SDS turn balks on or do what most of us do when people quick pitch: Hold R2 until they slow down.

Yes you’re correct. Quick pitching gets old, and the R2 disciples get old!! I’ve brought up the idea of bringing balls back before and I immediately get shot down by the “git gud” folks out there. Apparently balls were used in an event a couple years back and they say it was a disaster. Quite honestly, I don’t care. Something has to be done. The h2h experience is god awful. I gave this game up for 8 months last year and if the net tech coming Saturday can’t fix the disconnect issues that SDS refuses to comment on, I’m done period! I was a pretty good customer for them too! I would love to see balks as part of the game. As well as all the new rules!

I've heard a lot about holding R2 on this forum, but I still don't know what the effect is. What does it do?
