There really isn't any difference between difficulty levels in Conquest. What's the point of having levels when they overlap? Help? I'm trying to get through my first map and regardless of the level the computer is scoring just enough runs to win.
If there isn't any difference...shouldn't the game just have one difficulty level? Otherwise it seems like a player would experience a different result. But, that's not the case.

No idea what you just said, but there is a difference between rookie and legend that's for sure.
-
Isn't their 5 levels? Rookie to legend. I've played on Rookie and couldn't get a run several times. Just double plays and stuff arbitrarily happen to kill any chance. And the computer always manages to scratch out a single run to win.
I've played on HoF and scored 4 runs and no-hit the computer. Shouldn't there be a consistency of some sort?
Most games I've played when you're going at the most basic level everything is a breeze. But, if you're going on much higher levels it's much harder. This game doesn't seem to do any of that.
It just seems arbitrary. If I play on any level, doesn't seem to matter, lose 2 games I'll win the third. I'll lose the 2 games 1-0, then suddenly just start scoring runs like crazy in the third. Very odd.

I have no idea, I always play all my conquest games on legend and I can't remember the last time I lost a game. The only time I play on rookie is when I need to tally some hitting stats fast for POTM or FOTF program and in my experience you can pretty much hit home runs at will. So I don't have the same experience as you in this regard.

I just must really be terrible. Sorry for asking. Good luck.

I see in another thread you made that you're new to the game. I didn't know that when you made this thread. My advice would be to switch to zone hitting, because I assume you play on directional hitting and that is what causes random outcomes. With zone hitting you move the PCI in the strike zone to where the pitch will be and you time it correctly to get a good result. Or at least in theory, a good result doesn't always happen but it's definitely more consistent and rewarding than directional hitting.
Good luck!

Repetition but good repetition. It will take awhile. This is a difficult game if you are just beginning. Zone hitting. Strike zone 2 view. Analog pitching. Work from there. Dont beat yourself up. Just try and improve. We have all been there, though, for some of us that was years ago. It's an addictive game once you get down the basics and have a little success. Good luck.

I do use zone hitting. I read somewhere that was supposed to give you a better chance.
But how do you get better when there doesn't seem like any consistency to the outcome of a swing. A homerun swing is also a popup swing. The computer makes different sounds and gives a different result, but I know it's the same pitch and same swing that was a homerun perfect/perfect. It just doesn't feel like I'm in control. It feels like it's all about the computer.
I will continue to play, but I don't see a lot of light at the end of this tunnel.

Because pitch type and location are very important, not every pitch in the strike zone is a good pitch to swing at.

What helped me the most in Conquest was learning to play it differently than a 9-inning game. The starter will wear out quickly, usually in the yellow by 15 pitches and the red by 30. The CPU will not pull his starter before he is due up, even if completely depleted of stamina. So take pitches in the first couple innings. Always take until 2 strikes unless he floats a hanger down the middle. Walks are your friend, as are steals, so get at least one burner on the bench to pinch-run, if not two. The CPU won’t pitch out from the 4th pitch and onward In each at bat. Then when the CPU starter is in the red or depleted, wait for something down the middle. And be prepared to pull your own starter after 2 innings, or even in the 2nd if need be.
Just slow down the game a bit and you’ll do fine.

Thanks for the tips all.

I've been playing on zone hitting for a little over a year. The thing I've done recently is started to have the PCI fade out right before the pitch is thrown. This allows me to place my PCI and then concentrate on the pitch. My results have been far better.
There is no magic formula, is about experimenting and doing what feels comfortable. -

It just takes a while to get up to speed. There is a huge difference in pitch speed and PCI size on higher difficulties it is VERY noticeable. Just keep trying Rookie or Veteran Conquest games and see where you are early/late and eventually you'll start hitting and you probably won't even know why. I've played the game off and on for years and when I picked up 20 I was in virtually the same boat as you are

Thanks for the help. If you saw my other thread though. It doesn't matter what difficulty level you play on. I just played a Conquest game on HoF and got a hit on just about every swing. I don't mean AB, every swing (I only swung at hittable pitches in the zone). Finally started bunting 1 out into the 2nd inning to get it over with.
With Conquest, In my experiences is doesn't appear to put much emphasis on skills or difficulty level.
Same sort of strategy as above in a couple games on "Rookie" and everything I hit was an out. 2 double-plays in one game...3 in another. It was exactly like "Rookie" was the high level and "HofF" was the low level.
Is Conquest broke then? If not broke..it sure is upside down. Ha.
Can't wait to fill out a decent team and try some online stuff. This "vs computer" stuff seems more like the software is in control while I watch. Hope the online stuff isn't as noticeable.

My hitting is fine...well probably about par for the course. I believe it was because of my mainly silver-gold lineup. Computer wanted me to buy some better cards I suppose. The more gold cards I purchased/earned the more success I had.
