The Curious Case Of The “PERFECT” GROUNDBALL (a.k.a. 4-6-3 DP)

She that’s what I don’t get either. If it’s a perfect hit why is it a perfect hit why would that result in a groundball? It’s usually 100 mph off the bat but no issues for the fielder to scoop it up. If it is truly a perfect hit there is no reason it should be anything less than a double
-
They should make perfect perfect grounders result in a bobble. At least you can’t turn two
-
Bingo! If I hit into a DP on a none perfect, I think, “well it happens”. If it happens on a perfect, I think “what am I supposed to do differently to avoid this”. They need to make Perfect-perfect never be able to be double plays. So ridiculous!

Pretty sick of timing up a ball perfectly only to have the RNG reward me with the “perfect groundball” hit right into the glove of a “perfectly” auto-shifted infielder so they can turn it into nothing but a taylormade double-play....
SDS really doesn’t know the definition of “perfect” because even they must know that the term “perfect grounder” defies logic unless it’s meant to refer to the perfect outcome from the opposing pitcher’s perspective!! They know MLB teams kept track of groundball/flyball rates, launch angle, etc. to make sure they’re not employing hitters that stupidly try & hit groundballs opposed to anything other than infield popflies
But all hail the Magic RNG I guess...joke
Your understanding of flyball rates and launch angles is misguided and not accurate. You still want a mix of groundball and for some hitters they don't want them lofting 40+% FB.
If you don't understand what a perfect ground ball is Google Tony Gwynn 5-6 hole.

Just to reference real baseball here, one of the hardest hit balls of the 2017 season by Giancarlo Stanton was a 120 MPH ground ball. Obviously the RNG is annoying but that's just how it goes sometimes.

That’s fine, but this is a video game, and this is an area they could easily fix to make it feel more skill based, and that inputs actually effect the output. Don’t need to make every outcome random... also you had to go back to 2017 to find this. I have had 2 games in the last week where the hardest hit ball in the game was a DP...

As much as the perfect/perfect routine double play off a low pitch sucks, I have to say that when I have discipline with people on base and go after a pitch up in the zone and hit into a routine double play I am way more annoyed. Pitches at the letters should not be hit into the ground on Good/Good feedback.

Edit: nvm

This thread is silly.

How? If you hit the ball hard (perfect) common fielders shouldn’t routinely turn a double play

——-also kind of silly to say. Look I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen too often in the game. But just because you hit a “perfect perfect” ground ball does not mean you can’t hit it directly at someone. Have you ever watched baseball? It happens a lot.
As far as it should not create a double play goes, typically perfect perfect hits are crushed, so if it’s fielded cleanly with a runner on base.. you get a double play.
Again I’m not advocating for SDS here because it does seem to happen too often but I see people exaggerate their “perfect perfect” outs all of the time. It does happen in baseball... -
I agree with pretty much all of the comments here and while I know that my passing reference to a few of the advanced metrics used these days clearly over-simplifies things since there will always be anomalies when it comes to “real baseball” outcomes/players!
Believe me I wish my team (Yankees) had a few more guys less focused on launch angle after watching them swing & miss pretty much everything Houston threw them last postseason just hoping to launch a HR instead of putting the ball in play. Indeed our best player last year, DJ LeMahieu, we got off the discount-rake all b/c he lacked the “sexy” advanced statistics teams are overly focused on these days...
But at the end of the day I’m not trying to play actual MLB baseball or else I’d get off the couch and hire a professional hitting coach to train me! It’s a video game so by definition isn’t constrained by the reality of MLB baseball & at least I still remember when these games were created just to be a fun way to play pretend MLB baseball without the frustrations of an actual 162-game season once you got off school/work. Perhaps that’s my biggest issue with SDS, they forgot the reason we buy the game & have turned it into a nightmare which ends up frustrating users to the point that I feel compelled to spend time writing another essay on the definition of the word “perfect” outside of HS English class!
And yes, I’m being a bit of a bad loser but know I’m not the 1st person to post something along these lines! In fact, I’m admittedly not that great at video games so sorry to be extra let down when I do finally tee up a ball only to get my frown turned upside down b/c it’s even worst than a striking out...it’s a double play lol
