People are slandering Judge like he's not a top 8 player in baseball when healthy
He’s not though. Trout, Yelich, Betts, Arenado, are all clearly better. Bellinger has had 2 out of 3 good years and he’s a slightly better defender. Acuna and Judge are close but Judge is 6 years older than Acuna so I’ll take him. We will see this year if Bregman is actually good without cheating. Soto is a better overall hitter but the poor defense on Soto gives Judge the edge. Rendon is better. I’ll give you top 15 but we have really only seen 1 year of what Judge can do. He hasn’t been healthy enough to crack the top 10 players in baseball IMO
Except, since his debut, he's still 6th in overall fWAR, having played fewer games than 1-5.
For reference, Bregman is 5th, and he's played 100 MORE games than Judge, and Judge has a higher defensive rating than 3 of those 5 players.
Not putting Judge in the top 5 is an egregious error.
Tbh Judge may be better than Trout
His defensive value is higher, but CF is much bigger territory.
With a robe zone, his K rate should tank and BB rate should jump: low balls are called strikes on Judge, 100% more often than the league average.
I think Judge is going to have a very good career and all, but there really isn’t an argument for him (or anybody) being better than trout.
The only person who would even come close in the current conversation would be Betts
The gap between Trout and Betts is still much larger than the gap between Betts and everybody else. Betts has had one season that was on trouts level offensively.
I was talking about close relative to other players because Mookie is pretty far and away the #2 best player in baseball at this moment
At the moment far and away the #2 best....no. You could easily and I mean easily argue that Bellinger and Yelich are equal if not better than Betts and after the season Ketel had...he is up there in top 5.
Betts had a "down" season that was almost as valuable as Bellinger and Yelich's. Marte has had one good year now. It's a pretty crazy notion to think any of those 3 have been better than Betts in even a 2 year time period
Did you just say he had a "down" season.....He had an average season for what he has put up in the 5 years prior....definitely not below it. Bellinger is 23 and coming into his prime and well Yelich..he has shown what he can do. Marte was a stretch but I was going off his 2019 campaign. To say Mookie is far better than everyone except Trout is idiotic. I was just talking outfielders.

Mookie has been plain better than the other players listed, his 2018 was offensively better than Yelich's 2019, he's been far and away defensively better than everyone listed by you, I can't believe this is even a debate for some people. A 10.7 fWAR season hasn't come anywhere near happening for any outfielder currently other than Trout, Harper, and Betts

And Judge.
Judge had an 8.3 fWAR in 2017, despite voters saying that he "disappeared for 2 months" with a shoulder injury that required postseason surgery.
By the voter's logic, a healthy Judge would have put up 12.45 fWAR.

I'm just using the voters' logic, which shows how asinine that vote was and how absurdly dismissed Judge has been.
It's folly to assert that he's better than Trout, because Judge has 0 healthy seasons, and Trout has 8, consecutive, MVP-level seasons.
While Judge is considerably better defensively, he doesn't play CF; also, it's not Trout's fault that umpires destroy Judge with the zone.

I'm just not comfortable making that assessment when there's not official stats to back it up, I'm not going to call someone who played one game and hit 4 homers the best player in baseball

Judge is a top 5 player on top of his game, we have not seen a full season of that, chill out
I'm just using the voters' logic, which shows how asinine that vote was and how absurdly dismissed Judge has been.
What stats are you looking for? I will get you the references.

WRC+ that blows Trout out of the water
If you are replying to me, that is one offensive stat, and Judge and Trout had a nearly identical wRC+ in 2017.
Let's look at DRS: Trout's career defensive runs saved is 8; in 2019, Judge's DRS was 19 in 102 games.
That means that Judge saved more than TWICE as many runs as Trout, in 2/3 of ONE season, than Trout has in NINE seasons or 1199 games or 11.75 times as many games.
That's a defensive value multiple of 27.9 for Judge, who already has a career DRS of 41...

Both DRS and UZR are calculated differently based on positions, I strongly oppose you using a defensive metric cross position. For WRC+, Trout's career is only 2 points below Judge's best year, 2017. That's basically saying Trout has been just about better than any Aaron Judge season in any season of his career (2017 is the only season where he was less valuable and it was due to an injury that restricted playing time and only let him play 114 game), also Trout and Judge are almost the exact same age.

You missed the entire reason that it was in quotes lmao, a lot of people called it a down season
Judge is a top 5 player on top of his game, we have not seen a full season of that, chill out
I'm just using the voters' logic, which shows how asinine that vote was and how absurdly dismissed Judge has been.
What stats are you looking for? I will get you the references.
@KierannosaurusK said in Who will be the top 3 outfielders next year in DD?:
A healthy judge could drop 15 WAR
That would require 1) luck, 2) a digital zone, and 3) perfect health.
It's asking A TON.
I can't tell if you're trolling or not anymore
Both DRS and UZR are calculated differently based on positions, I strongly oppose you using a defensive metric cross position. For WRC+, Trout's career is only 2 points below Judge's best year, 2017. That's basically saying Trout has been just about better than any Aaron Judge season in any season of his career (2017 is the only season where he was less valuable and it was due to an injury that restricted playing time and only let him play 114 game), also Trout and Judge are almost the exact same age.
Trouts in a different league than every other player in baseball
I think you think I am arguing that Judge is better than Trout, while I am actually arguing that he is also one of the best players in the game and even possesses certain abilities that Trout does not.
That has been obvious from the start
