It’s weird. I’m disappointed, but can’t help but think it’s partially because of how corny the cards look. I mean, look at some of the names and stats out there: Brett, Dawson, Kilabrew, Smoltz, Gwynn - those are some big names with solid attributes...but I’m with you, kinda let down. You just kinda know NONE of these guys will be on end-game rosters (maybe a few will be bench bats or 5th in rotation)...and at this point in the season, I think people are waiting for cards with end game potential.
At "this point in the season"...since when did halfway through the season constitute all the best cards dropping? We have 4 months before baseball season ends and then another 4 months of filler content where SDS continues to release cards until The Show 21.
See here's the problem: If SDS drop all the god tier cards now then everyone complains in December/January when every single card they release is way worse than the cards in their lineup...so which do you want?
I’m not saying I EXPECT god tier cards at this point - but I’m not really grinding or buying cards right now unless I think they are going to be one of the best cards on my team. I don’t look at any of these guys and see them as a replacement for the guys I already have (maybe Smoltz and Orel, kilabrew as a bench bat, etc). Who in here replaces any of the collection rewards, or program 5 bosses, or most of the XP rewards, or your cap, or hell, Bellinger? That’s what’s disappointing to me.
This isn’t a “screw SDS” comment - content has been awesome. But there’s nobody here that I see as someone going into my lineup right now - and certainly not still in it a month from now.
For the record, I’ve always thought the people last year who complained about great cards too soon were insane - bust out the studs early and often, IMO.
And you can’t deny the card art is an absolute tire fire

If you are disappointed with these cards then you won’t be satisfied by anything and that’s the truth. Seriously? What more do you want? These cards are FREE. The card art is a legitimate gripe but seriously the complaining around here is out of hand
-
I cant wait to get Schmidt, Smoltz, Hershiser, and whoever the Indians stage 3 is (hopefully Thome or Manny).

It’s not being disappointed that they exist - they are good cards, and I’m sure we’ll see lots of them for the next 3 weeks. I’m glad they are in the game - they are great free cards. I’m not excited to go get most of them - that’s all. If that’s alright with you, of course.

I’m glad they are in the game - they are great free cards and I wasn’t necessarily expecting anything more. On the heels of those Program 5 cards though.... Terrible card art.

I know this makes me sound entitled, but I think the way they did the cart art was lazy. I was hoping for them to use the standard Awards Series/Signature Series design, but instead, all we got was a carbon copy of the Team Affinity 1 template. Not to mention, some of the players’ pictures they used were horrendous.
On the flip side, I think it’s great that big-name legends, like Dawson and Schmidt, are obtainable through a reasonable, free grind.

I dig good card art, don’t get me wrong. Give me 87 Topps all day long.
Seriously though, I don’t get the griping about the card art. Did you hate the original FOTF? We got current FOTF and now we’ve legend FOTF. It’s the same card art and that doesn’t bother me. I’m more focused on the players (who have been fine to me) and the attributes.
The sig cards are worse this year than last, in my opinion. Again, whatever. The award look is cool. The future stars are nice looking, better than the previous versions, to me. The prime are just the regular cards with borders (though the border does look cool).

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the look of these cards. I just wish they were done differently. Let’s be real, that picture of Orel Hershiser looks pretty goofy (there’s a few others to name as well). Imagine if they instead gave him an Awards Series card from his 1988 Cy Young season. You’d have his wind-up, his reflection, and the light beam shining down on him. It would’ve looked sick. I just can’t help but think that there was so much more potential for the designs of these cards.
Regardless, they’re still awesome.

You do have to wonder if COVID played a part in the card art (though I don't care about card at all). Maybe they had something better planned but had to scrap it cause they couldn't be in teh office working on it cause covid.
