Lineup Order

Was wondering how you guys order your lineup. What do you look for in a leadoff hitter, 2 hole hitter, etc.?
Are you strict with breaking up your lefties and righties or does it matter to you?

I have a speedy guy in the 1st spot, and then just go in order of my best hitters after that.
For example, right now Brian Roberts is leading off, I have Mickey second, Sheffield third, Thames fourth.
I'll change it up a bit from time to time based on who I'm trying out, but as a general rule: I don't care if righties are next to each other, but I won't bat two lefties in a row.

In general, you should just bat the players you are most comfortable with near the top of your lineup so they get the most ABs. But there can be extenuating circumstances. For instance, I bat over .360 with Sheffield and had him batting fourth, but he has a tendency to hit into double plays, so I started batting him lower to prevent those DPs as much. Just try to recognize which guys are doing well for you in general, and in specific situations, and build your lineup accordingly.

I always put speed in the leadoff spot and 7 spot with my slowest batter in the 8 hole. I put a fast guy in the 7th spot so if he gets on with 2 outs I can attempt a steal and if he gets thrown out then I have the 8 hitter leading off next inning instead of the pitcjer and if he makes it i have a guy in scoring position.

My lineup has a ton of lefties.

The stacked lefties really hasn’t burned me too bad. I hit decent L/L. It also forces people to burn their lefties early and there’s not a lot of lefty options. Plus seeing Kluber and now Rivera most games it helps because people can be stubborn taking Kluber out. Plus all of my lefties have good splits against both sides and my righties are straight lefty killers.

You want to start with your fastest guy with high OBP then your best slugging guy next. I like to do that 1-8. Yes you try to go R-L-R-L but more important than that is to protect your batter with the next batter in lineup. I bat Jose after Chipper so say they throw a RHP to Chipper, Jose gets a prime matchup. Also for your 8 spot hitter you want a fast guy say 50-60+ so if he gets on you can bunt him over with your pitcher. Hope this helps.

I definitely like to split up my lefties, but other than that I like to fill my 1, 2, and 4 slots with my best hitters with very little regard to speed.
I've always hit better right on right than left on left so right now I only have 2 lefties in my lineup to discourage my opponent from using LHPs. After each of my lefty hitters I also make sure to have a righty that kills LHPs to make them less likely to go to a lefty out of the bullpen. I wouldn't go so far as to put one of my better righty hitters low in the lineup to protect a lefty but I will move a guy a spot or two to mix my lineup.
I've also recently gone to my pitcher hitting 8th with Jackie Robinson hitting 9th because I like Jackie but he's not good enough to hit at the top of my order but his singles and speed would be wasted hitting 7th or 8th. I don't really steal with Robinson but I have power at the top of the order so he can get on first and then hopefully get more fastballs for the guys that can knock it over the fence.

I divide the lineup into 2 groups of 4. I go Speed—>speed+power—>contact+power—>power—>repeat.
So something like:

I try and split L/R when I can. I always try to have a speed guy leading off too. I just got Juan Pierre so I switched my lineup around a little bit but right now it's:
- Pierre LF (L)
- Brujan 2B (S)
- McCutchen RF (R)
- Bellinger 1B (L)
- Hanley Ramirez 3B (R)
- Victorino CF (S)
- Posey C (R)
- Pitcher
- Rollins SS (S)
It gives me a nice balance of power and speed. Plus, with Rollins hitting 9th, it's like having 2 leadoff guys, and 3 speed guys with Rollins, Pierre, and Brujan....

Had lot of success with Pierre. Situational bunting down the first baseline...he has phenomenal success rate. Put a lot of balls in the gap and hit 4 of 5 of my inside the park HR’s for me on the year. Im a bit past having 91’s in my lineup but one of my favorite cards of the year so far. I wonder if he has a shot at a TA3 card for Miami?

At this point, only Mantle is an upgrade to me, that I don't have yet, that's currently in the game... It's a great L/R split too.

Rest of the lineup is LRLR or RLRL depending on the handedness of my best hitter, who happens to be Mantle. So right now I believe it's...

Ideally I like to have a guy who hits for a high average and puts the ball in play no matter what Leadoff, usually a high speed guy like Ozzie Smith for me. Then I tend to hit my best player 2nd or 4th. You never wanna hit your best hitters 3rd because they either bat in the first inning with 2 out and no one on more often than not. If you hit 4th, your best player hits with runners on in inning 1 or leads off a fresh inning for himself. I also tend to give the bottom of my lineup for thunder as I don’t want the 7-8-9 to feel like give away or easy at bats for my opponent.
