Directional is the more realistic batting input
-
Think on it. Average swing rate is around 46% ( real baseball) last few years. Now using zone, how often are you swinging at pitches ? How many pitches in the strike zone are you swinging at? I would guess zone hitters swing at around 75% or higher of strike pitches.
I think that’s why people get mad at directional batters. Directional wait for THEIR PITCH to capitalize. They lay off pitches meant to induce poor results and they wait for the mistake pitch ( either by user input or the rng )
Food for though

Just...no.

What? No counter argument? Just a caveman answer of no?

I lay off a ton of pitches, I use zone. I'm pretty proud of my walk rate. Using a certain type of hitting doesn't make one group way more patient then the other.
There are plenty of overeager directional hitters and patient zone hitters and vice versa. You don't magically become a patient hitter using one input over the other.
-
I admit I’ll switch to it when I get frustrated. Either way I still get perfect/perfect fly ball outs

Yes.

I could NEVER EVER go back to directional. It’s not even fun!

My Shih Tzu plays with Classic pitching and directional hitting. She's not bad.
-
I have 50 event wins using directional.

Didn’t say directional was the better input for competitive games. Just saying that directional is the more realistic.
Case in point. Cards you gave if known high strikeout players ..... Gallo , Judge and so on. Look at your stars with them. See how many strikeouts you gave compared to how many they have per AB. If you real curious, dive into advanced stats. Righty and lefty pitchers and so on

You are proud of your walk rare because it’s not the norm.
Directional eventually forces you to be patient or you will hardly get a run.

It’s a video game ... you’re required to have good user input in order to be good at / compete in a VIDEO GAME. Sitting there & simply pressing the X button, expecting to be competitive, is kinda pathetic to be honest. Requires the epitome of ZERO skill. The fact that you’re allowed to use it at all in an online-based game mode, is actually pretty dumb. Anything to shrink that skill-gap, eh?

So video games should only be for the best players? Makes sense

Sometimes you have to push the stick into a direction to counter the way a pitcher is pitching to you. So I’m sorry to have to educate you and burst your bubble. It takes more than hitting X.
Oh and an advantage that directional has over zone is that it’s easier to push or pull a pitch based on situation ( runners on base ). Also to make a grounder or sac fly

I used directional and switched to zone. Sorry but it honestly takes more skill to hit using zone. In real baseball you watch the ball, you stride and swing. But you are also going to move the bat to where the ball is. Directional is honestly nothing but swinging, so no it isn’t skill based
-
In REAL life a hitter has to get their bat on the ball wherever it is in the strike zone. So how is simply omitting that aspect of hitting more realistic? And as others have said you can be every bit as patient of a hitter with zone, you're still trying to read the pitch and good stick skills can both look for a particular pitch and still cover elsewhere without needing the CPU to do the work for them.

Using directional reduces the amount of good contact you are able to get, so it widens the skill gap. If it increased success rate, everyone would use it. Nice try though.

I agree that almost everybody is far too aggressive in this game but I'm not sure about your conclusion that directional vs. zone is what makes the difference. Other than the elite hitters that can hit anything, everyone would be better served by waiting for your pitch rather than swinging at anything in the zone but this is a video game and people tend to be aggressive in video games

In an online-based game mode, you’re trying to be competitive, no? If directional is proven to be so poor .. why use it at all in a head-to-head competitive mode? Please tell me.
You don’t wanna make the switch for a reason .. I’m guessing it’s because using zone, takes some actual skill. If you wanna grind the offline stuff using your directional method .. by all means.

What is it you’re aiming for with your comment lol .. further going along with my point that directional is garbage? Where whatsoever am I saying anything at all about it being beneficial, or “increasing success rate”..? “Nice try though”, I guess
