Negro League Players
-
Why are there very few Negro League Players in this game? With the current state of our country now is as good a time as any to honor those amazing players by putting them in the game. I did a little research last night and it got me interested even more about the Negro League. There were some studs that played in the NL. According to MLB there are 35 Negro League players in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The only one I recognized on that list that has ever been in the game is Monte Irvin. WIth the absurdity of the Future Stars it's obvious they need new ideas. Why not Negro League players SDS??????

My guess is licensing and it being MLB The Show not NL The Show.
-
They need to purchase their rights individually and I’m not sure how they would grade the cards because of a different level of competition(not in a racist way)
-
I would do the filthiest things imaginable to ramone, Luis, and Steven in exchange for a 99 SS Josh Gibson.
But I’d just do filthy stuff to ramone for funsies.
-
these players have been in video games before, im not going to say I fully understand the licensing process for past players especially dead ones, but since they have been used before it shouldnt be impossible to get their rights again

They have minor league teams that aren't MLB, I think it'd be a great addition to obtain the rights to add Negro League teams, stadiums, and players.

Ruth, Honus, Young, and Johnson are all represented by the same licensing group. This group also represents Satchel Paige. Please give us a Satchel Paige card!! If you can make up attributes for the stupid FS cards, then there is no excuse for not having negro league players. http://www.luminarygroup.com/clients/

I want a Satchel Paige, he was HUGE.
Many of the Negro league guys are now in the HOF, so SDS can in fact use them in the game.
A bit off topic, but as a KC area native, if you are ever in Kansas City the Negro League baseball museum is absolutely incredible. The MLBPA donated over a million a few years back, but it was started by Negro League players donating money to keep it open. It's now over 10,000 square feet and full of exhibits.
As you exit, there is a baseball diamond with life size statues of players playing in various action poses at their positions. Standing next to Satchel Paige on the mound is a breath taking experience.

Thank you for the tip! I hope the museum is open again because I am going to look into that. I am currently on vacation and I had planned back in February to spend these 3 weeks seeing games in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Phoenix. Alas, I’m just sitting at home playing the show (which is exactly what I’ve been doing for the last 3 months), so maybe taking a little road trip to KC next week would be fun (I live in Fort Worth so it’s a reasonable drive).
Thank you for the idea!

I second a Satchel Paige the guy pitched until he was 47 effectively and even when he was 60 for 3 innings of 1 hit ball. He pitched from 1926 to 1954 just incredible. If he gets a card it may never leave my rotation.

It's a licensing issue. Strat-o-matic had the same issue but was able to get it done.
SDS can too, just don't expect it this year. It takes time.
-
I wonder how hard it is for SDS to get someone’s license. It seems hard

Forgot about stadiums. That would be cool too!

KC is getting hit hard with Covid right now, but things are opening back up anyway. If you go to their website, they list a phone number, it's worth a call to see if it's still open.
The jazz museum next door is a must as well, they are in the same building, just different sides. The entire 18th and Vine area is really cool.

The licensing laws changed in 2014 or so(along with the end of NCAA games), so any game they may have been in before are irrelevant

That place is dope. I spent half a day in there learning about the history.

Page and Gibson would be amazing additions.

I enjoy the classic stadiums, but I'd happily trade most of them for some new ones. Couple of NL stadiums, Tigers Stadium, Astrodome, Ebbets, and maybe a cookie cutter

Just seconding this SDS! Give Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige!!!
