There is no way that Torre should ever be a 98 OVR.
He was a good to very good player, his three year run from 69 to 71 was impressive.
I am of the belief that cards 97 and up are for the best of the best, Hall of Fame level talent.I know this is a video game, but SDS should not pick and choose when to apply reality and when to sprinkle fairy dust on a card to boost it's ratings.
I know we have prospects and future stars and I do not like thier high ratings, but those cards are what if's and what is sports talk other than never ending what if's?
Torre's career is done, there is no what if. His numbers, his accolades and bold print stats are there..no way should he be a 98.
Give him a 94 OVR for his MVP year in 71, but that should be the top rating for him.He won MVP in 71, batting .363 while leading the league in hits and RBI...
That sounds like a 98 to me...
6.9 fWAR is not worthy of a 98.
a 171 OPS+ is 5 points lower than Mike trouts career OPS+, is Mike trout not a 99 overall SS card?
EDIT: a 171 OPS+ was 3rd in the NL behind Stargell and Aaron, would have been 2nd in the AL.

Speaking of War what is the FS and FOTF war that they deserve those 90 ratings?

His offense was very good. His defense, however, was very bad.

It is worthy of a 98 for a catcher. You have to factor positions into overalls as well

Fielding and defense are pretty important for catchers, and Torre was terrible on defense.
Ratings aren’t just offense.
Edit: he actually played 3B that year, which is even worse.

You're comparing a single-season OPS to a career OPS. Leave the goalposts where they are.

and his DRS was a -21.0...That is far from elite. It was atrocious.
Heck, Gary Sanchez had a -0.1 and he is a nightmare behind the plate. Can you imagine how bad -21.0 is?His WAR was 5.9 (as per Baseball Reference) that year, that was not even in the top 10 for the NL.
That is not 98 worthy.Edit: Just saw that he was a 3B in 71. -21.0 is horrible regardless of position.

The whole point of these inflated overalls/stats is to give players options. We already see some generally agreed upon "best cards" that most people use so if you give boss Torre a 93 overall or something, its likely most people wont use him.
Chances are most people still wont use him, but it gives you another option if you're a Braves fan or just like Torre or whatever without being overly penalized.
No reason to look at overalls so realistically imo.

You guys are upset that Joe Torre (a 9 time All-Star and former MVP) has a 98 overall card in a game that has a Kevin Smith card rated 90! (The Jays 23rd best prospect).
Hardly surprising or upsetting. Torre had some big years.. and some "years" actually in the bigs...

FS are bad, yes.
But Torre being a 98 is just as bad.Edit: okay, maybe not as bad. But still very wrong.

I agree. And giving Torre(A HOFer) a 98 is fine compared to them going to be giving Elsbury a 97-98. Elsbury had one phenomenal season and was below average the rest of his career, and is probably the worst contract in history besides Bobby bonilla

But Torre being a 98 is just as bad.Just as bad? I don't think so. A 62.3 fWAR career with an MVP getting a 98 Sig isn't really that outrageous... A bit high? Yes.. but not 90 Kevin Smith bad..
I would have gone 95, prestige to 97.. but whatev...

Yeah I didn’t expect that either. Makes me wonder if we are missing something with the other two guesses. There is no way in their right mind that Ellsbury would be a 97-98 overall
Not even in the 1 real goid season he had during his career.

I'm cool with it, it's a fake card in a fansty card collecting game who cares what the overall is. It will be a fun card to try out for a while then replace when we get Pizza, Bench or Pudge main cards

Give him a 94 OVR for his MVP year in 71, but that should be the top rating for him.SS cards are graded differently. They take the best attribute from every year and put it into one card. If you average his stat per 162, then yes he isn't 98 worthy. But that's not how it works

Yup. It's the opposite for the Award cards, which they jack 1 season. I'm sure this is how Ellsbury gets a 97-98 card for 2011..
I guess if they gave Heyward a 95, it's in line with that... -

FYI Torre was a Hall of Fame Manager not a HOF Player (Big diffrence).
He was an All Star caliber player for most of his career. Which makes him very good but not great. -

I agree with you on the FS cards 100%. They are bogus what if cards that if a handful of these guys come close to these ratings I would be shocked.
