Sinker is meta

You can blame sds but also have to pit part blame ln the community. I mean watch your favorite youtubers or streamers when a new pitcher comes out. If they don't have a sinker they almost always dismiss that pitcher but if they do, the first thing you here is how "filthy" the card will be.

The sinker is actually a really common pitch. It's just a modified 2 seam. To throw it properly is a natural arm motion (pronation), so it is less stress on the elbow/shoulder. Its is becoming as common as a curveball, or change up.
So.....yes. Most of the young pitchers have been taught to utilize the sinker, because of arm strain/effectiveness.Yea I'm gonna strongly disagree. Sinkers are a combination of arm slot and mechanics and genetics. You can't just teach someone to throw it

Lmao genetics??? So if I take 23 & Me it'll tell me I got the sinker gene???? Hahaha i can't believe some of you guys believe what comes out of your mouth. How ridiculous.

so I know the sinker is the meta right now for pitches, but come on!!! Ur telling me this many pitchers in the MLB have a sinker In there repertoire?? (Now dustin may) give me a break!
Can anyone provide an example of a pitcher that has a sinker in the game but doesn't throw one in real life?
Brooks Baseball and Fangraphs have all the data at your fingertips.

Yea hand and finger size has absolutely zero to do with pitch action!

We aren't talking Joe Shmoe sitting on his coach, we are talking MLB players...
...and yes you can learn to throw a sinker. Even with mechanics and arm slot pitchers adjust those as they develop. Even veterans change their arm slot and revive their career like Jason Vargas did several years ago.

I would love to talk pitching with you guys. I am a pitching coach at a small GLIAC school.
Unfortunately genetics have nothing to do with your ability to throw a sinker. A sinker most certainly can be taught. It's the first pitch I work on with my guys. A sinker should move NE to SW or vise versa. A two seam moves horizontally, but is a very similar pitch. The grip will differ depending on mechanics, arm slot, and velocity.
A strong sinker rely's on grip, grip pressure, and internal rotation of the hand (pronation).
I do agree that arm slot can matter, but doesn't stop you from throwing a solid sinker. It can just limit break, or velocity. -

So.....yes. Most of the young pitchers have been taught to utilize the sinker, because of arm strain/effectiveness.Definitely 100% false. Did you know more pitchers have had UCL problems throwing fastballs (Higher torque/joint stress) vs curveballs (supination)?
I’ve tested arm strain using the motus sleeve for curveballs vs fastballs, and the strain grade was lower on curveballs.
Also, a “sinker” is a 2 seam fastball that has lower spin and a spin axis that allows it to use gravity to “sink”. It doesn’t have a drag effect like a high spin/spin efficiency 4 seam fastball that work against gravity to give it a “rising” effect.

Genetics aka anatomy aka hand/finger size
Sinkers are essential 2 seam fastballs
