ummm... elaborate ?

Not sure if anyone has thought of this or not... But was thinking about the Directional vs. Zone debate. Here is what I think would be interesting....
Regular Modes:
- Standard BR and RS as it is now where it is open to every type of online play.
Competitive mode:
-
Only allow directional hitting.
-
BR entry costs 3,000 stubs.
-
RS would cost anywhere from 5-10 stubs per season.
Not sure if the reward system would be or even should be different. I'm sure there will be some who say it should..but on the other hand wouldn't the reward of knowing that all users were using the same online play be reward enough ?
Why would you pay to play competitively? I like you separate modes idea. The difference should be in XPearned and stubs earned for playing and winning
-
True. I guess there probably shouldn't be a pay to play with stubs. you know what you would be getting into with directional only. Just didn't know if upping the ante would make it even more competitive. I suppose if there was a higher pay to play tier they could increase the rewards slightly. Personally I think I'd throw down 5,000 or more stubs for a different ranked season that might offer unique rewards ( and directional only)
-
Only allow directional in competitive ?
-
I'm not even sure what is being presented here or what you are trying to get at.

Yeah. Only in the "Competitive" mode or whatever one would call it. But there would still be the format now where you could enter a BR or the regular ranked season and have all types of play styles.

There's just always been the stigma of directional hitters in BR or RS as not taking as much skill ( Obviously on the lower levels like All-Star) because they can just hold the left stick up and sit on a pitch and mash a button. I've never really used directional in online play so I can't speak to if it is an advantage or not. Just thinking of a way to finally separate the styles of play.

- It's not an advantage, it gets massively overestimated by people who are salty about losing. There is a reason even though people complain about directional that they don't use it themselves. They may claim "moral high ground" is the reason they don't, but it's really because it's not as good.
- Why would we separate directional into a "competitive mode" as you stated when you said there is a stigma of it not taking skill, so wouldn't it make more sense to separate zone, not directional?
To be clear, I think people that complain about directional hitting is stupid, I think it should be an option in all modes and IDC if my opponent uses it. But the way you're presenting it seems confusing. Why would you call it competitive if the stigma is that it doesn't take skill?

I was just stating that there has always been the debate about should it be viewed as "competitive" online play if users aren't actually playing with the same input options.
In the other posts I said that that was the stigma. I personally don't care if someone is using it or not. I've never used it so I can't say if it is an advantage or not. I'm sure there is skill involved. I was just offering up a thought on how once and for all if players really wanted to match up with the same style of play there could be an option. And also keep the regular ranked season as well for all styles of play.

Best answer is that we get to choose interface and difficulty and matchmaking is done based on this settings match with the option of any
-
People only complain about directional when they aren’t as good as they think they are. Directional hitters are good for 2-3 runs a game, but if you lose as a zone player to a directional player you are either
- Not scoring enough to beat them 2.Actually playing a zone player because you never know if they are directional or not, or 3. Throwing bad pitches. A good pitcher will carve up a directional hitter 10/10 times

I agree.
If they're going to add a possibility like this then this should pretty much be the way to do it.

Completely true. And again to be clear this wasn't a complain post about directional hitters. It was just an idea of something that might be able to clear up the whole directional vs zone when playing H2H.

This is dumb, everyone knows directional players can't make it past 500.

My entire soul melted while reading this thread. This makes absolutely no sense for so many reasons.

History Lesson:
In the Nintendo 64 era (and previous iterations) Zone Hitting was the norm in Ken Griffey Baseball (Still the best couch play video game of all time).
In the early 2000's Direction or "Hit Stick" interfaced were added to The Show and ESPN Baseball as the new hotness because it better simulated the act of swinging a bat.I started playing MLBTS as an online game in 2016...I had actually stopped playing video baseball games when EA's NCAA Baseball disappeared. In 2016 I used the option for 'full swing.' This was actually the most challenging way to play MLBTS because each batter required different timing to both pull back and swing forward. In 2017 I discovered how much easier the "Flick Stick" method was...no real skill there. In 2018 I made it a mission to learn how to use the PCI again because that seemed to be the standard through which the developer streams and most forum posters were describing as the norm.
The long and the short of my experience is thus: The 'Flick Stick' is cheap. PCI is the accepted norm. 'Full Swing' is still the most challenging way to play, but that extra challenge means the results will be minimal compared to learning Zone Hitting. People shouldn't be judgmental of how others play the game...SDS needs money from as large a player base as possible for you to have access to your god-squad names/images.
